How to uninstall the Qoder desktop app on Mac
Qoder is Qoder's agent desktop app, with the bundle ID com.qoder.app. It is the international edition of the app; the China-region edition has its own guide, and Qoder IDE (com.qoder.ide), the code editor, is a different app with its own guide. On first launch Qoder creates ~/.qoder, a folder Qoder IDE, QoderWork and the Qoder CLI also use for sessions, memories, plugins and settings, so removing this app should not automatically take it. Qoder keeps its long-term memory on your Mac (Settings › Memory), and Qoder's macOS installation guide says removing the app does not replace a backup of project files or important task output, so decide what to keep before you start. The download tested here was an installer that also installs Qoder IDE; this guide covers only the Qoder app.
Check which Qoder you have
Qoder IDE can also show as Qoder in Applications, so check the bundle ID before you delete anything:
mdls -name kMDItemCFBundleIdentifier /Applications/Qoder.app
"com.qoder.app" is the app this guide covers. "com.qoder.ide" is Qoder IDE; follow its guide instead. "could not find" means nothing is installed at that path.
If you are moving from Qoder IDE or QoderWork to this app, run Qoder's data import before you remove either of them, since it reads from the installed source product.
Quit and remove Qoder
- Let running tasks finish, and make sure the files they produced are saved in your project folders.
- Quit Qoder from its app menu or with Command-Q. In the test it ran 14 processes, which Mole's Status page groups into one Qoder row.
- Search for Qoder in Activity Monitor and check that its processes have exited. Processes from Qoder IDE or QoderWork can match the same search; leave them alone.
- Open Finder, go to Applications and drag Qoder to the Trash, as Qoder's installation guide describes.
Qoder added no login item or launch agent in the test. If you no longer use Qoder IDE either, remove it with the Qoder IDE guide; removing the Qoder app does not take it with it.
Where Qoder keeps its files
In Finder, press Shift + Command + G and check each location. Skip the ones that do not exist.
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
~/Library/Application Support/com.qoder.app.stable |
App data; the name adds .stable to the bundle ID (20 MB in this test) |
Remove with the app once you have what you need |
~/Library/Preferences/com.qoder.app.plist |
Preferences | Remove with the app |
~/.qoder |
Created on first launch; in this test 32 MB with qoder-computer-use and plugins |
Keep it while Qoder IDE, QoderWork or the Qoder CLI is installed; otherwise copy what you want and remove it |
Qoder also leaves temporary caches for com.qoder.app and com.qoder.app.helper in your per-user cache folder (getconf DARWIN_USER_CACHE_DIR prints it) and a recent-documents entry, which Mole removes with the app. Qoder's documentation does not say which folder holds task records and memories on this Mac; the descriptions above come from what this test found on disk. Qoder's CLI installation page calls ~/.qoder the configuration directory and asks you to check it for sessions, memories and settings you still need before deleting it.
Check the result
pgrep -il qoder
mdls -name kMDItemCFBundleIdentifier /Applications/Qoder.app
ls -d "$HOME/Library/Application Support/com.qoder.app.stable" ~/.qoder
command -v qodercli
- No output from
pgrepmeans no Qoder process is running. A listed process means Qoder or another Qoder product is still open. "com.qoder.app"frommdlsmeans the app is still in Applications. "could not find" means it is gone, and"com.qoder.ide"means what remains there is Qoder IDE.ls -dprints each folder that still exists and reports "No such file or directory" for the rest. A surviving~/.qoderis expected when you keep it for another Qoder product.command -v qodercliprinting a path means a Qoder CLI is still reachable in this shell, so keep~/.qoder. No output means this shell cannot find one.
No Homebrew cask for the Qoder app was found. Removing the app does not cancel a Qoder subscription or delete your account. For other AI coding tools and what they leave behind, see Clean Up AI Coding Tools on Mac: Caches, CLIs, Transcripts.
What Mole lists
When you remove Qoder with Mole:
- The app,
~/Library/Application Support/com.qoder.app.stable,~/Library/Preferences/com.qoder.app.plist, the temporary caches and the recent-documents entry are selected by default. Look inside the data folder first if you want to keep anything from it. ~/.qoder, and~/.qoder-cliand~/.qodersecif they exist, are listed for review only while neither Qoder IDE nor QoderWork is installed; while either is installed Mole leaves them out of the list. With “Remove data and settings with apps” off they stay unticked; turning it on can select eligible reviewed app data. Mole does not check for the Qoder CLI, so uncheck these folders while you still use it.- Mole quits Qoder and its helper before moving the app.
What this test covered
On October 20, 2026, the test downloaded the official Qoder installer for Apple silicon, took the Qoder 0.4.8 app out of it without running the installer, so Qoder IDE was not installed, launched it without signing in and removed it with a source-built Mole. Mole listed five rows and the app and moved all of them to the Trash. Afterwards only ~/.qoder (32 MB) was left; Mole now lists it as a shared Qoder folder. Status showed one Qoder row with 14 processes using 917 MB. Qoder carries an update feed, and no update was run. Signing in, tasks, data import, the installer's Qoder IDE and Mole's notarized release build were not tested.
