Uninstall WeChat on Mac without losing chat history
Remove WeChat only after you have a copy of the chats you still need. Tencent says uninstalling clears chat history on the device, and the server does not keep that copy.
Save chats before you remove the app
Tencent’s support note says chat history stays on your device for as long as you do not delete it. After WeChat is uninstalled, that history is cleared, and a new install cannot show it again unless you already backed it up or migrated it. Signing out does not delete the history. Uninstalling does.
Use whatever backup or migration you already trust inside WeChat, then open the copy and check it. This page does not add a click-path the support note does not give.
Remove the app
Quit WeChat from its application menu. Closing the window leaves it running. In Finder, open Applications and move WeChat to the Trash.
Do not delete a folder because the name contains Tencent. Other Tencent apps on this Mac can store their own data under a similar name. Chat history is not a cache, and this page does not list data folders to delete.
What this test covered
WeChat stayed installed. The inspection did not run an uninstall. Mole does not list WeChat chat history for deletion, and it does not list a Tencent-wide folder. Mole cannot bring back history that Tencent says lives only on the device.
