How to uninstall Usage Device Monitor on Mac

Back up Usage settings and any monitoring history you want to retain before uninstalling. This is the Usage device monitor from usage.pro, tested as the Mac App Store app, not the different Media Atelier application also named Usage. Its publisher describes iCloud data synchronization, so verify synced state separately from a local backup.

    Stop monitoring and save state

If you use iCloud and have another synced device, check wanted data there. Quit Usage and the bundled Usage Menu and Usage Background Service processes, confirming in Activity Monitor that they belong inside your Usage.app. Copy the existing main container and app group below to a private backup outside every sync root and removal folder, and verify it before clearing originals.

Move Usage.app from Applications to the Trash in Finder. Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for unwanted Usage entries. If you bought a renewable Pro subscription, manage it separately; deleting the app does not cancel renewal.

    Review recorded local state

    • ~/Library/Containers/pro.usage.mac and ~/Library/Application Scripts/pro.usage.mac: main sandbox state and scripts support.
    • ~/Library/Containers/pro.usage.mac.menu and ~/Library/Application Scripts/pro.usage.mac.menu: bundled menu helper's local data and scripts.
    • ~/Library/Containers/pro.usage.mac.backgroundservice and ~/Library/Application Scripts/pro.usage.mac.backgroundservice: bundled background service's local data and scripts.
    • ~/Library/Containers/pro.usage.mac.MacWidgets and ~/Library/Application Scripts/pro.usage.mac.MacWidgets: widget data and scripts.
    • ~/Library/Group Containers/3K4R6ZGH22.group.pro.usage.mac and ~/Library/Application Scripts/3K4R6ZGH22.group.pro.usage.mac: the exact Usage app group; back up and confirm exclusive ownership before removal.

These paths come from the recorded installation. Open existing entries with Finder's Go › Go to Folder, trash only unwanted confirmed-owned data after backups are checked, and keep shared parents. Retaining a local folder does not itself verify a history restore.

    Check the result

pgrep -ifl 'Usage.app|Usage Menu|Usage Background Service'
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/pro.usage.mac" "$HOME/Library/Group Containers/3K4R6ZGH22.group.pro.usage.mac"

No process match means this pattern found no matching arguments; identify surviving matches before quitting them, especially if another product is also named Usage. Printed folders still exist and can be expected when retained. A missing-path error means that exact folder is absent; other errors leave the result unknown.

    What Mole lists

The main container/scripts and confirmed own bundled helper/widget folders are selected by default. The exact team-prefixed Usage group and its scripts folder can also be selected by default, but deletion still requires exclusive ownership. Back up and uncheck wanted data; the optional app-data setting does not bypass group protection.

    What this test covered

The Mac App Store installation was removed on September 21 and retested on September 26, 2026. The later Usage 2.16.17 run removed selected main/helper/widget data, while the app group was kept during uninstall when installed-app ownership changed. That group was moved to the Trash in the recorded follow-up cleanup. Existing history restoration, iCloud sync and subscription management were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
