How to uninstall UnnaturalScrollWheels on Mac
Keep wanted UnnaturalScrollWheels preferences before removing the app. The official instructions describe mouse-wheel scrolling changes separately from trackpad settings. This guide covers the official Mac disk-image app.
Quit and remove the app
Open the app again if its menu bar icon is hidden, then quit UnnaturalScrollWheels. Move UnnaturalScrollWheels.app to the Trash after its process exits. Use System Settings to review any remaining login item or Accessibility permission; do not remove an unrelated item merely named AutoLauncher.
Data to keep or review
~/Library/Preferences/com.theron.UnnaturalScrollWheels.plistheld preferences in the test. Copy wanted settings first.- The cask also names
~/Library/Application Scripts/com.theron.UnnaturalScrollWheelsand~/Library/Containers/com.theron.UnnaturalScrollWheels; inspect any existing data before removal. - The bundle contained an AutoLauncher login-item app, but it was not registered during the recorded first launch. This does not establish its state on a Mac where start-at-login was enabled.
After copying wanted settings, open Finder and press Shift + Command + G. Paste each full path above separately, inspect the item, then move the confirmed app-owned data to the Trash.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl UnnaturalScrollWheels
ls -ld /Applications/UnnaturalScrollWheels.app "$HOME/Library/Preferences/com.theron.UnnaturalScrollWheels.plist"
No process output means this name was not found, not that every helper has gone. Check any match against the app’s actual executable path. A missing-path error from ls means only that location is absent; permission errors leave its state unknown. A surviving folder can be intentional data to keep.
If you installed it with Homebrew
Ordinary cask uninstall asks the app to quit. Zap names its exact Application Scripts and Containers directories and preferences; it does not reset macOS mouse or trackpad settings.
To uninstall without zap, use:
brew uninstall --cask unnaturalscrollwheels
Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap unnaturalscrollwheels runs Homebrew’s full zap list without consulting Mole’s checkboxes.
What Mole lists
Mole selects the app, exact preferences and attributable cache rows by default. Uncheck wanted settings. Shared system input settings and unrelated AutoLauncher items are not blanket uninstall targets.
These are the defaults with “Remove data and settings with apps” turned off. Enabling that preference can also select eligible reviewed app data; shared stores, protected profiles and agent archives keep their individual review or remain locked. Check the final list before confirming.
What this test covered
On September 25, 2026, UnnaturalScrollWheels 1.4.2 was copied from the official disk image and tested with a development build of Mole. The recorded preference and temporary-cache rows were removed. The bundled login item was not registered; an enabled login-start path, device-specific scrolling and permission revocation were not tested.
