How to uninstall Übersicht on Mac

Back up your Übersicht widgets and custom scripts before removing the app. The official documentation describes JavaScript widgets that run commands on the desktop. This guide covers the official Mac archive app, not removal of the tools those widgets call.

    Quit and remove the app

Save your widgets, stop any work they launched that you no longer need, then quit Übersicht from its menu bar. Move Übersicht.app to the Trash after its process exits. Keep separate commands and files used by your widgets.

    Data to keep or review

    • ~/Library/Application Support/Übersicht held local app data in the test. Copy wanted widgets and custom resources before reviewing this parent; use the actual folder shown on your Mac.
    • Preferences at ~/Library/Preferences/tracesOf.Uebersicht.plist and app-attributable HTTP storage were observed. For the latter, use the full path in Mole’s details.
    • The cask additionally names ~/Library/Application Support/tracesOf.Uebersicht, ~/Library/Caches/tracesOf.Uebersicht and ~/Library/WebKit/tracesOf.Uebersicht. Scripts, repositories and command-line tools outside the app’s data are not all app-owned simply because a widget invokes them.

After backing up wanted files, open Finder and press Shift + Command + G. Paste each full path separately and move only confirmed app-owned data to the Trash. For a recent-document-list row, use its full path from Mole’s details and leave the shared parent intact.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl "Übersicht|Uebersicht"
    ls -ld /Applications/Übersicht.app "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Übersicht" "$HOME/Library/Preferences/tracesOf.Uebersicht.plist"

No process output means this name was not found, not that every helper has gone. Check any match against the app’s actual executable path. A missing-path error from ls means only that location is absent; permission errors leave its state unknown. A surviving folder can be intentional data to keep.

If you installed it with Homebrew

Ordinary cask uninstall quits Übersicht and removes its named login item. Zap includes the support directories, exact caches, preferences and WebKit state; a support parent can include wanted widgets.

    To uninstall without zap, use:

    brew uninstall --cask ubersicht

Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap ubersicht runs Homebrew’s full zap list without consulting Mole’s checkboxes.

    Current cask.

    What Mole lists

Mole selects the app, exact preferences, its own recent-document-list file and attributable caches by default. With “Remove data and settings with apps” off, the Übersicht support parent stays unticked; turning it on can select the folder when it passes the app-data checks. Widget files and resources you want must be backed up before opting into data removal.

These are the defaults with “Remove data and settings with apps” turned off. Enabling that preference can also select eligible reviewed app data; shared stores, protected profiles and agent archives keep their individual review or remain locked. Check the final list before confirming.

    What this test covered

On September 25, 2026, Übersicht 1.6 was copied from the official archive and tested with a development build of Mole. The selected support, preference, HTTP and temporary-cache data was removed. Populated custom widgets, their external commands and login-start restoration were not verified.
