How to uninstall TRAE SOLO CN on Mac

TRAE SOLO CN is the Mac desktop app of TraeWork, Trae's AI workstation with Work, Code and Design modes. On trae.cn it is offered as TraeWork for macOS, the file you download is called TraeWork, and what lands in Applications is TRAE SOLO CN with the bundle ID cn.trae.solo.app (Mole's Status page shows it as TraeWork CN). Its conversations, snapshots and Work mode projects sit in ~/Library/Application Support/TRAE SOLO CN, and that same folder holds the tool runtime Work mode downloads on first use, about 1 GB compressed, which reached 3.1 GB on disk in this test. Removing the app alone leaves the folder in place; selecting its data for removal deletes it, so decide about your history before you delete it. No Homebrew cask exists for TRAE SOLO CN. Trae CN is a separate app with its own guide.

Quit TRAE SOLO CN and remove the app

    1. Let any running Work, Code or Design task finish, then quit TRAE SOLO CN from its app menu or with Command-Q.
    2. Search for Trae in Activity Monitor and check that TRAE SOLO CN's processes have exited. If Trae CN or the international TRAE is also open, its processes can match the same search; leave them alone.
    3. Move TRAE SOLO CN from Finder's Applications folder to the Trash.
    4. Open System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions and turn off any TRAE SOLO CN entry that is still listed. It added no login item in this test.

Where TRAE SOLO CN keeps its files

In Finder, press Shift + Command + G and check each location. Skip the ones that do not exist.

Location What it holds What to do
~/Library/Application Support/TRAE SOLO CN Conversations, snapshots, Work mode projects, logs and caches, plus the Work mode tool runtime in ModularData/ai-agent/vm/tools (most of the folder's 3.1 GB in this test) Keep it if you want your history after reinstalling; remove it to get the space back
~/.trae-cn Built-in tools and skills, plugins, Design mode component libraries, attachments and settings. Trae CN writes into the same folder, and a skill installer for several editors can put skills there too Keep it while Trae CN is installed. Otherwise look inside first and keep anything another tool put there
~/.ai_completion, ~/.icube-remote-ssh Folders the Trae apps share: AI code statistics and a remote SSH cache Keep them while another Trae app is installed
~/Library/Preferences/cn.trae.solo.app.plist Preferences Remove with the app

The tool runtime is a private set of about 110 packages, among them LibreOffice, FFmpeg, ImageMagick, Python, Node.js and pandoc, that Work mode uses to produce documents and process media. It is separate from any Homebrew installation you have, so removing it does not affect your own tools. Whether TRAE SOLO CN downloads it again after deletion was not tested; expect Work mode to need it again. TRAE's documentation does not describe these folders; everything in the table comes from what this test found on disk.

    Check the result

Run these read-only commands in Terminal:

    pgrep -il trae
launchctl list | grep -i trae
    ls -d "$HOME/Library/Application Support/TRAE SOLO CN" ~/.trae-cn ~/.ai_completion ~/.icube-remote-ssh
du -sh "$HOME/Library/Application Support/TRAE SOLO CN"

    • No output from pgrep means no Trae process is running. A listed process means TRAE SOLO CN, or another Trae app, is still open.
    • The launchctl filter checks only current-user job names containing trae; no match does not rule out differently named or system jobs. Identify any cn.trae.solo.app match and check the app’s entries in Login Items & Extensions.
    • ls -d prints each folder that still exists and reports "No such file or directory" for the rest. ~/.trae-cn is expected while Trae CN is installed.
    • du -sh shows how much space the Application Support folder still takes. "No such file or directory" means it is gone.

    Account and subscription

Removing TRAE SOLO CN does not sign you out on Trae's servers, cancel a subscription or delete your account, and projects you created on TraeWork's web version stay on the web. For other AI tools and what they leave behind, see Clean Up AI Coding Tools on Mac: Caches, CLIs, Transcripts.

With “Remove data and settings with apps” off, reviewed dot folders stay unticked. Turning it on can select eligible app data after the co-installation checks; shared content and protected agent archives still need individual review or remain locked. Check the final rows rather than relying on the folder name.

    What Mole lists

When you remove TRAE SOLO CN with Mole:

    • ~/Library/Application Support/TRAE SOLO CN, with your history and the tool runtime, stays unticked with “Remove data and settings with apps” off; turning it on can select eligible app data. Back up wanted history and projects, then uncheck the parent if they should stay. The Chromium caches and logs inside it are separate rows, selected by default.
    • Preferences, the recent-documents entry and temporary files filed under cn.trae.solo.app are selected by default.
    • ~/.trae-cn is listed as one row only once Trae CN is not installed either.
    • ~/.ai_completion and ~/.icube-remote-ssh are listed only when neither Trae CN nor the international TRAE is installed.

    What this test covered

TRAE SOLO CN 0.1.69 was downloaded from trae.cn as TraeWork for macOS and copied into Applications on September 28, 2026. It was signed in and used in all three modes; Work mode first downloaded about 1 GB, which unpacked into the 3.1 GB tool runtime, and ~/.trae-cn grew from 5 MB to 138 MB. Mole's Status page showed it as one TraeWork CN row, 20 processes using 1.30 GB. On September 29, 2026 it was quit and removed with a development build of Mole in a run with other AI apps, after Trae CN had already been removed, with all rows ticked. The app and the 3 GB Application Support folder went to the Trash. Mole then offered the TRAE SOLO CN subfolders of ~/.trae-cn rather than the whole folder, so about 2 MB, mostly skills, stayed there; Mole now lists the whole folder once neither Trae CN nor TRAE SOLO CN is installed. ~/.ai_completion and ~/.icube-remote-ssh were not listed in that run and are listed now. No login item was added and no Trae SOLO job remained afterwards. Signing out, deleting the account and whether the tool runtime downloads again were not tested.

Mac running low on space or slowing down? Mole can clean out the junk, remove apps completely and keep macOS in shape.
