How to uninstall TIDE on Mac

End active timers and save TIDE records you want to keep before removing the Mac App Store app. Its publisher's listing describes focus sessions, sleep/nap functions and a TIDE diary; deleting local app data is separate from preserving those records. This guide covers the recorded Mac edition.

Stop sessions and save local state

Stop ongoing focus, sleep or sound sessions and retain wanted diary or session records. If you use account synchronization and have another available synced device, check wanted records there too; keep an independent copy rather than relying only on synchronization.

Quit TIDE and its menu helper if running. Copy the existing main container and wanted group data below to an independent private backup outside every sync root and removal folder, and verify it before deleting originals. Move Tide.app from Applications to the Trash in Finder, and check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for a remaining TIDE entry. A monthly or yearly subscription is managed separately; uninstalling does not cancel renewal.

    Review recorded app data

    • ~/Library/Containers/tide.moreless.io and ~/Library/Application Scripts/tide.moreless.io: main sandbox data and scripts support.
    • ~/Library/Containers/tide.moreless.io.TideWidget and ~/Library/Application Scripts/tide.moreless.io.TideWidget: the bundled widget's data and scripts.
    • ~/Library/Group Containers/group.tide.moreless.io and ~/Library/Application Scripts/group.tide.moreless.io: the exact app group; back up and verify exclusive ownership before removing.

These paths were recorded in the Mac test. Open existing entries through Finder's Go › Go to Folder after quitting and trash only unwanted confirmed-owned data after backup checks, keeping shared parents. A copied container does not establish that every session or download can be recovered.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl 'Tide.app|TideMacMenu'
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/tide.moreless.io" "$HOME/Library/Group Containers/group.tide.moreless.io"

No process match means this pattern found no matching arguments; identify a surviving match before quitting it. Printed folders remain, expected if retained. A missing-path error means that exact folder is absent; permissions or command errors leave its state unknown. These checks do not confirm diary recovery or subscription cancellation.

    What Mole lists

The main container/scripts and confirmed own bundled widget folders are selected by default. The exact app group and its scripts folder can also be selected by default, but deletion still checks exclusive ownership and keeps data when it cannot be confirmed. Back up and uncheck wanted state; the optional app-data setting does not bypass group protection.

    What this test covered

The Mac App Store TIDE 5.10.6 app was removed on September 21 and retested on September 26, 2026. The later run removed selected main and widget data but kept the group when installed-app ownership changed during the run. Focus, sleep or meditation sessions, populated diary recovery, signed-in synchronization and subscription management were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
