How to uninstall TestFlight on Mac

Keep documents and data belonging to your beta apps before removing TestFlight. Apple describes TestFlight as its beta-testing client; its own container is not a backup of every beta app's documents. Quit TestFlight and use Apple's app-removal flow to move TestFlight.app from Applications to the Trash.

    Keep beta-app data separate

Removing the client does not establish removal of each beta app or its own data. Review ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.TestFlight only if resetting client data, and keep other apps' containers and shared Apple directories. The app group group.com.apple.testflight is subject to a separate ownership check; do not bypass a refusal by deleting a broader parent folder.

    ls -ld "/Applications/TestFlight.app"
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.apple.TestFlight"

A printed path remains. No such file or directory means that exact path is absent; permission errors leave it unknown. These checks do not cover other beta apps, all group stores or their document recovery.

    What Mole lists

The selected app, exact main container and Application Scripts folder are normally checked when present and unprotected. The confirmed bundled ServiceExtension's own container and scripts can also be checked by default. The exact group.com.apple.testflight group rows can be selected, but deletion still checks ownership and may retain them.

The per-app cache leaf ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.AppleMediaServices/Metrics/com.apple.TestFlight is distinct from the shared AppleMediaServices cache. A whitelist can keep this leaf; do not remove the parent to bypass it. Remove data and settings with apps is off by default, and protected or shared data retain their boundaries.

    What this test covered

Mac App Store TestFlight removal was recorded on September 22, 24 and 26, 2026. App and selected client data removal were covered; the latest run retained group data after an ownership refusal and the metrics leaf because of the test machine's whitelist. Beta-app document recovery, account changes and complete removal of every protected store were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
