How to uninstall Superwhisper on Mac
Back up dictated text, custom modes and history before removing Superwhisper. The current Mac backup guide identifies ~/superwhisper as the default data folder; older installs may use ~/Documents/superwhisper, and custom locations apply. Its models subfolder contains custom-model configuration, not a promise that it contains every downloaded voice model.
Save data and stop recording
Finish recording and save wanted text. In Settings › Advanced settings › App folder location, check the actual folder you use, then quit Superwhisper and stop connected CLI/MCP or agent integrations before data changes. Copy the entire existing data folder outside every sync root and removal folder, including wanted modes, settings and recordings, and verify it. The history guide identifies ~/superwhisper/recordings, or the corresponding older/custom folder, for recording history.
Also copy wanted existing ~/Library/Application Support/superwhisper before clearing app state. Move superwhisper.app from Applications to the Trash in Finder after completing any optional independent-tool cleanup below. Manage subscriptions separately from local removal.
Optional CLI and agent integrations
The CLI documentation and its official installer source identify a standalone superwhisper binary at /usr/local/bin/superwhisper or ~/.local/bin/superwhisper, unless a custom install directory was chosen. This binary does not leave with the app. Check which entry resolves, confirm ownership and remove only that exact unwanted binary in Finder. Keep the data folder if you still use the CLI to read history; data deletion can affect it.
Remove only the Superwhisper MCP entry from configured clients, keeping their other settings and archives. The agent integration guide says plugin removal is handled in each agent: Claude Code uses /plugin for superwhisper@superwhisper; OpenCode removes only @superwhisper/opencode from ~/.config/opencode/opencode.json. For another configured agent, remove only its Superwhisper integration through that agent's plugin settings. These are separate from uninstalling the app.
If you installed it with Homebrew
The current cask asks the app to quit and removes its managed bundle without zap:
brew uninstall --cask superwhisper
Zap additionally removes ~/Documents/superwhisper, ~/Library/Application Support/superwhisper, ~/Library/Caches/com.superduper.superwhisper, ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.superduper.superwhisper, ~/Library/Preferences/com.superduper.superwhisper.plist, ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.superduper.superwhisper.savedState and ~/Library/WebKit/com.superduper.superwhisper, plus matching com.superduper.superwhisper.sfl* entries inside ~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.sharedfilelist/com.apple.LSSharedFileList.ApplicationRecentDocuments. It does not name the newer ~/superwhisper default. Keep shared parents and wanted history, and inspect each owned location before clearing it.
A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap superwhisper ignores Mole's checkboxes. Mole uses zap only when its whole scope passes selection, ownership and safety checks; selected remnants otherwise use its own Trash flow. Neither this cask nor app removal uninstalls the independent CLI.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl superwhisper
command -v superwhisper
ls -ld "$HOME/superwhisper" "$HOME/Documents/superwhisper" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/superwhisper"
No process match means this pattern found no matching arguments. A surviving match can be the app or standalone CLI/MCP server; inspect its path before quitting it. command -v resolves a PATH entry, not its owner, and no output means none resolves in this shell. Printed data folders remain, expected if retained. Missing-path errors refer only to those exact folders; other errors are inconclusive and do not verify history recovery.
What Mole lists
The display-name support row starts unchecked with Remove data and settings with apps off; enabling it can preselect eligible unshared app data. Exact app-ID caches, network storage, preferences and window state follow their default selection rules. Check the actual configured ~/superwhisper, older Documents or custom data folder separately, keeping wanted history and any CLI-shared data. The option does not add undiscovered paths or remove agent integrations for you.
What this test covered
On September 22, 2026, the official-download Superwhisper 2.18.3 app was copied into Applications and removed with its selected support folder. The older Documents data folder was absent in that run, and an app recent-document record remained. A later local record identified a separate home-folder data location. Dictation, populated-history restoration, independent CLI/agent removal and Homebrew were not tested.
