How to uninstall SuperTuxKart on Mac

Back up local players, progress and wanted add-ons before removing SuperTuxKart. The official FAQ documents the Mac configuration folder and player-progress file. This page covers the official Mac archive app; a fresh-launch uninstall test is not a recovery test for your saved games.

    Quit and remove the app

Finish the current race, quit SuperTuxKart, then copy wanted local data before moving SuperTuxKart.app to the Trash. Keep custom tracks and resources you stored elsewhere.

    Data to keep or review

    • ~/Library/Application Support/SuperTuxKart held first-run data in the test and is the cask’s support target. Inspect the actual folder on your Mac before removing it.
    • The vendor documents ~/Library/Application Support/supertuxkart/config-0.10 for versions 1.0 through 1.5. Its players.xml includes progress; preserve it and wanted local content. The documented lowercase spelling and tested/cask spelling differ.
    • Preferences and temporary cache were observed separately from the support parent; use the full paths shown in Mole’s details for those recorded rows. The cask also names ~/Library/Saved Application State/net.sourceforge.supertuxkart.savedState.

After backing up wanted saves and settings, use Finder’s Shift + Command + G to open each full path separately. Inspect the contents before moving unwanted app-owned data to the Trash; keep shared configuration and other installations’ files.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl supertuxkart
    ls -ld /Applications/SuperTuxKart.app "$HOME/Library/Application Support/SuperTuxKart" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/supertuxkart/config-0.10"

No process output means this name was not found, not that every helper has gone. Check any match against the app’s actual executable path. A missing-path error from ls means only that location is absent; permission errors leave its state unknown. A surviving folder can be intentional data to keep.

If you installed it with Homebrew

The cask has no separate uninstall helper. Zap removes the complete named support folder and exact saved state, so it can discard local players and progress stored under that support parent.

    To uninstall without zap, use:

    brew uninstall --cask supertuxkart

Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap supertuxkart runs Homebrew’s full zap list without consulting Mole’s checkboxes.

    Current cask.

Removing the Mac app does not delete an online SuperTuxKart account. Keep local player progress separately rather than treating an online login as a backup.

    What Mole lists

Mole selects the app, exact preferences and attributable temporary-cache rows by default. With “Remove data and settings with apps” off, the SuperTuxKart support parent stays unticked. Turning it on can select the folder when it passes the app-data checks; back up wanted progress and uncheck that parent if it should remain.

These are the defaults with “Remove data and settings with apps” turned off. Enabling that preference can also select eligible reviewed app data; shared stores, protected profiles and agent archives keep their individual review or remain locked. Check the final list before confirming.

    What this test covered

On September 25, 2026, SuperTuxKart 1.5 was copied from the official Mac archive and tested with a development build of Mole. The app and selected first-run support, preference and cache data were removed. Existing player progress, custom add-ons, online accounts and saved-game restoration were not verified.
