How to uninstall Paseo on Mac
Back up Paseo configuration, sessions and wanted worktree files before uninstalling. The official configuration guide places the default home at ~/.paseo and new worktrees under its worktrees directory. This guide covers the Mac desktop bundle; an independent daemon or remote host is a separate installation.
Quit and remove the app
Stop agent and workspace commands cleanly, save their changes and quit Paseo. Before trashing the app, check that any remaining daemon comes from this desktop bundle and uses the home you are retiring. For an app in Applications using the default ~/.paseo home, stop only that local instance with the bundled executable:
"/Applications/Paseo.app/Contents/Resources/bin/paseo" daemon stop --home "$HOME/.paseo"
Check the command result and verify that instance exited, then move Paseo.app to the Trash. If it reports a failure, leave the app/data in place until the daemon is stopped. A separately installed daemon, a different home and a remote host are outside this command. The documented --force option permits forced process-tree cleanup after the graceful timeout and can interrupt unsaved work; Homebrew's uninstall uses it, so save and stop active work before either route. Review local data
After saving work and stopping the desktop instance, open ~/Library/Application Support/Paseo, ~/Library/Logs/Paseo and ~/Library/Preferences/sh.paseo.desktop.plist with Finder Shift + Command + G. Copy wanted local state outside the chosen folder, then move only the leaves you no longer need to the Trash. Keep ~/.paseo or a custom home while it holds wanted worktrees/sessions or any retained daemon uses it. Once those files and Git state are preserved and no retained daemon needs that home, open its parent with Finder Go to Folder, press Shift + Command + . if the home folder is hidden, and move only that retired home folder to the Trash. Keep repositories and independent agent archives.
~/.paseocan hold configuration and worktrees;PASEO_HOMEor--homecan change its location. A whole-folder removal can lose local work.~/Library/Application Support/Paseoheld desktop data in the test; its Electron cache children are separate.~/Library/Logs/Paseoand~/Library/Preferences/sh.paseo.desktop.plistheld logs and settings.- Agent archives, repositories and data on a separate daemon host need their own retention decision.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl paseo
command -v paseo
launchctl list | grep -F sh.paseo.desktop.ShipIt
ls -ld /Applications/Paseo.app "$HOME/.paseo" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Paseo"
No process output means this name was not found, not that every helper has gone. Check any match against the app’s actual executable path. A missing-path error from ls means only that location is absent; permission errors leave its state unknown. A surviving folder can be intentional data to keep.
command -v reports only this shell’s command path; absence does not rule out another installation. launchctl shows jobs in the current user domain; no matching row does not prove that an independent daemon is stopped, and a permission error leaves that state unknown.
If you installed it with Homebrew
Ordinary Mac cask uninstall unloads sh.paseo.desktop.ShipIt, quits the app, runs its bundled paseo daemon stop --force, and removes the cask-managed command. Save active work first. Zap includes ~/.paseo, desktop data, logs, updater caches, preferences and an Apple shared-file-list entry, so it is broader than removing the app.
To uninstall without zap, use:
brew uninstall --cask paseo
Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap paseo runs Homebrew’s full zap list without consulting Mole’s checkboxes.
What Mole lists
Mole selects the app, exact preferences and attributable caches by default. ~/Library/Application Support/Paseo is listed for review, and ~/.paseo can appear when the local Homebrew catalog supplies that zap path; do not assume every direct-download installation lists it. With Default remove app data off review rows start unchecked; with it on, eligible own data can start checked. Inspect and uncheck wanted state or worktrees and any home still used by a retained daemon.
What this test covered
On September 25, 2026, Paseo 0.9.2 was copied from the official Mac package and tested with a development build of Mole. A cached Homebrew zap entry supplied the hidden home row, and the selected data was removed. The run did not cover populated worktrees, independent daemons, remote hosts or active provider jobs.
