How to uninstall Osaurus on Mac
Keep Osaurus chats, agent configuration and wanted models before uninstalling. The official project documents local models under ~/MLXModels, with a configurable model location. This guide covers the official Mac app, while leaving unrelated model stores and cloud accounts separate.
Quit and remove the app
Stop active agent or server work and save its results, then quit Osaurus from its menu bar. Check that its process has exited before moving the installed Osaurus app to the Trash. Preserve files in agent working folders separately.
Review local data
After stopping agent/server work and quitting, open the exact paths below with Finder Shift + Command + G. Copy wanted chats, settings and models outside the directory you plan to remove, then move only chosen app-data leaves to the Trash. Open ~ with Finder Go to Folder, press Shift + Command + . to show hidden items, and remove only .osaurus if no longer needed. Skip missing paths, leave shared parent folders alone, and keep ~/MLXModels or a configured model directory until its ownership and every model you need have been checked.
~/.osaurusheld chat history, agents, tools and encrypted metadata in the local test. Back up the wanted state before reviewing this whole directory.~/MLXModelsis a documented model store and a cask zap target; it may also serve other tools. The test did not download a model there. Keep the directory unless you have established ownership and no longer need its models.~/Library/Preferences/com.dinoki.osaurus.plist,~/Library/Caches/com.dinoki.osaurus,~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.dinoki.osaurusand~/Library/Logs/Osauruswere observed.- The current cask also names
~/Library/Application Support/com.dinoki.osaurusand~/Library/Application Support/Osaurus. Do not treat configured model paths or agent projects as generic caches.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl osaurus
command -v osaurus
ls -ld /Applications/Osaurus.app "$HOME/.osaurus" "$HOME/MLXModels"
No process output means this name was not found, not that every helper has gone. Check any match against the app’s actual executable path. A missing-path error from ls means only that location is absent; permission errors leave its state unknown. A surviving folder can be intentional data to keep.
command -v shows the command resolved by this shell, not whether the app is running. No path means it is not on this shell’s PATH; a surviving command may belong to another installation.
If you installed it with Homebrew
Ordinary uninstall asks Osaurus to quit and removes the cask-managed osaurus command. Zap additionally covers support folders, caches, preferences, HTTP storage, logs, saved state and ~/MLXModels; that model parent can contain valuable or shared data.
To uninstall without zap, use:
brew uninstall --cask osaurus
Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap osaurus runs Homebrew’s full zap list without consulting Mole’s checkboxes.
Accounts and cloud providers
Removing the local app does not cancel cloud-provider billing or revoke access on those services. Manage those choices with the provider you connected.
What Mole lists
Mole selects the app, exact preferences and attributable caches by default. ~/.osaurus and ~/Library/Application Support/Osaurus are review rows. When the local Homebrew catalog is available and ~/MLXModels exists, that model parent can also appear for review. With Default remove app data off review rows start unchecked; enabling it can preselect eligible own data. Inspect and uncheck the chat/settings rows and model parent you want to retain, especially if another tool uses the models; the first-run test did not populate ~/MLXModels.
What this test covered
On September 25, 2026, the official Osaurus 0.25.12 app was copied and tested with a development build of Mole. Its first-run hidden data was initially missed; an exact reviewed leaf was added and retested. This was not a populated-chat recovery, full-model download or cloud-provider test.
