How to uninstall OpenSuperWhisper on Mac
Save recordings and transcripts and keep any speech models you want before removing OpenSuperWhisper. Its official documentation describes Whisper and Parakeet downloads and manually added models. The first-run test did not download a model, so it does not establish model recovery.
Quit and remove the app
Stop recording and transcription, then quit OpenSuperWhisper from its menu-bar menu or with Cmd + Q. Move OpenSuperWhisper.app to the Trash after checking your saved material. Do not delete a separately installed Whisper tool or shared models merely because it uses the same engine.
Review local data
After stopping recording/transcription and quitting OpenSuperWhisper, open the exact paths below with Finder Shift + Command + G. Copy wanted data outside the folder before removal, then move only the items you no longer need to the Trash. Skip missing paths and leave shared parent folders alone.
~/Library/Application Support/ru.starmel.OpenSuperWhisperwas observed locally and can hold app data; inspect it and copy needed contents.~/Library/Application Scripts/ru.starmel.OpenSuperWhisperis also in the cask.~/Library/Preferences/ru.starmel.OpenSuperWhisper.plistholds preferences. Confirm actual model paths in your app rather than guessing a shared model-cache root.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl OpenSuperWhisper
ls -ld /Applications/OpenSuperWhisper.app "$HOME/Library/Application Support/ru.starmel.OpenSuperWhisper"
No process output means this name was not found, not that every helper has gone. Check any match against the app’s actual executable path. A missing-path error from ls means only that location is absent; permission errors leave its state unknown. A surviving folder can be intentional data to keep.
If you installed it with Homebrew
The cask has no separate uninstall helper. Zap targets the exact Application Support and Application Scripts folders. A support folder may contain wanted app data even when the first-run test held no models.
To uninstall without zap, use:
brew uninstall --cask opensuperwhisper
Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap opensuperwhisper runs Homebrew’s full zap list without consulting Mole’s checkboxes.
What Mole lists
Mole selects the app, exact bundle-ID support data, preferences and attributable cache rows by default. Back up or uncheck the support row if it contains models or transcripts you want. It does not infer ownership of every Whisper or Parakeet model on the Mac.
What this test covered
On September 25, 2026, the official arm64 OpenSuperWhisper 0.1.0 app was copied from its disk image and uninstalled with a development build of Mole. Four listed items were removed and the recorded attributed paths were absent afterward. No model was downloaded on first launch; real recordings, model removal and the published Mole package were not verified.
