How to uninstall LabPlot on Mac

Save your LabPlot projects, imported datasets and any notebook files before uninstalling. The official project site describes plots, data import/export and notebooks as separate work. This guide covers the Mac app copied from the official disk image.

    Quit and remove the app

Save your work and quit LabPlot with Cmd + Q. Move the Mac app from Applications to the Trash after checking the backup. Keep separately saved projects and source data in place.

    Review local data

    • ~/Library/Application Support/labplot was observed in the local test; inspect its contents before removal.
    • ~/Library/Preferences/labplotrc is the locally observed settings file that Mole lists for review.
    • The cask also names ~/Library/Preferences/labplot2rc, ~/Library/Preferences/org.kde.UserFeedback.org.kde.labplot*.plist and ~/Library/Saved Application State/org.kde.labplot.SavedState. Open ~/Library/Preferences in Finder and inspect only filenames starting with org.kde.UserFeedback.org.kde.labplot and ending in .plist; the asterisk is a filename pattern, not a literal path to paste into Finder. Open the exact saved-state path separately. Once confirmed as unwanted LabPlot files, move only those items to the Trash. Keep other KDE settings, the parent folders and your projects.

After confirming your data and settings backups and quitting, press Shift + Command + G in Finder to open ~/Library/Application Support/labplot, ~/Library/Preferences/labplotrc and ~/Library/Preferences/labplot2rc when present. Move only the verified LabPlot item you chose to discard to the Trash. Keep projects, notebooks and shared KDE directories.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl LabPlot
    ls -ld /Applications/LabPlot.app "$HOME/Library/Application Support/labplot" "$HOME/Library/Preferences/labplotrc"

No process output means this name was not found, not that every helper has gone. Check any match against the app’s actual executable path. A missing-path error from ls means only that location is absent; permission errors leave its state unknown. A surviving folder can be intentional data to keep.

If you installed it with Homebrew

The cask has no separate uninstall helper. Its zap stanza targets labplot2rc, matching LabPlot UserFeedback preference files and saved state, not every KDE setting or project.

    To uninstall without zap, use:

    brew uninstall --cask labplot

Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap labplot runs Homebrew’s full zap list without consulting Mole’s checkboxes.

    Current cask.

    What Mole lists

Mole selects the app and exact attributable preference/cache rows by default. The support folder and labplotrc are listed unchecked when Remove data and settings with apps in General > Cleaning is off. Turning it on can preselect eligible app settings; uncheck what you want to keep. It does not generate a whole KDE or XDG cleanup family.

    What this test covered

On September 21, 2026, the official arm64 LabPlot 2.12.1 app was opened and uninstalled without Homebrew. The app, small support folder and UserFeedback preferences were removed; a 4 KB labplotrc was not listed in that run. Mole now lists that exact file for review. Projects, external notebook runtimes and full installer effects were not tested.

How the app tests were recorded.
