How to uninstall Gephi on Mac
Save your Gephi project and keep the graph’s source files before uninstalling. The official desktop documentation is the vendor’s reference for Gephi. This page covers the official Mac disk-image app.
Quit and remove the app
After saving and checking the backup, quit Gephi with Cmd + Q and move the Mac app from Applications to the Trash. Leave independently saved work and other applications in place.
Review local data
~/Library/Application Support/gephiheld versioned application data under0.11in the local test; copy wanted configuration or plugins before removing that version's data.~/Library/Caches/gephiheld versioned caches.- The test did not create
~/.gephi. Project files stored elsewhere are not disposable support files.
After checking the configuration/plugin backup and quitting, press Shift + Command + G in Finder to open ~/Library/Application Support/gephi/0.11. Open ~/Library/Caches/gephi to inspect the corresponding installed-version cache. Move only the version folder you chose to discard to the Trash; keep other versions, shared parents and independently saved graph files.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl Gephi
ls -ld /Applications/Gephi.app "$HOME/Library/Application Support/gephi" "$HOME/Library/Caches/gephi"
No process output means this name was not found, not that every helper has gone. Check any match against the app’s actual executable path. A missing-path error from ls means only that location is absent; permission errors leave its state unknown. A surviving folder can be intentional data to keep.
If you installed it with Homebrew
The cask has no separate uninstall helper. Zap targets both gephi parent folders above, including every version stored there.
To uninstall without zap, use:
brew uninstall --cask gephi
Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap gephi runs Homebrew’s full zap list without consulting Mole’s checkboxes.
What Mole lists
Mole selects the app and attributable caches by default. The support directory is listed unchecked when Remove data and settings with apps in General > Cleaning is off. Turning it on can preselect eligible app data; uncheck wanted settings or another version's data. Independently saved graph files are not a blanket uninstall target.
What this test covered
On September 21, 2026, the official arm64 Gephi 0.11.3 app was opened and removed. The recorded run removed the app and the versioned support/cache parent folders. No real graph dataset, project restoration or Homebrew installation was tested.
