How to uninstall Folo on Mac

Export your subscriptions to OPML and verify wanted reading state on another connected device if you have one before removing Folo. Save the export outside any sync folder and open it; a subscription list is not a backup of every saved article. The official README documents OPML export and cross-device syncing. This guide distinguishes the tested Mac App Store app from Homebrew’s desktop distribution.

    Quit and review local data

Quit Folo before copying wanted contents from ~/Library/Containers/is.follow, the container observed in the local test. Open it through Finder’s Go › Go to Folder and check the backup before deciding to reset it. Then move Folo.app from Applications to the Trash. Keep exported subscriptions and account access; removing the app does not delete the online account.

If you installed it with Homebrew

    brew uninstall --cask folo

The current Mac cask manages Folo.app and has no separate quit stanza. Quit it first. Additional Mac zap targets are:

    • ~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.sharedfilelist/com.apple.LSSharedFileList.ApplicationRecentDocuments/is.follow.sfl*
    • ~/Library/Application Support/Folo
    • ~/Library/Logs/Folo
    • ~/Library/Preferences/is.follow.plist
    • ~/Library/Saved Application State/is.follow.savedState

Its Linux-only data target does not apply to the Mac app. Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap folo handles the full Mac list independently of Mole’s checkboxes; keep the no-zap command when retaining data. Mole uses zap only when the complete scope passes selection and shared-data checks; unchecked, shared or out-of-boundary paths and unsupported actions suppress zap, while selected remnants use its own removal flow.

    Check the result

    ls -ld "/Applications/Folo.app"
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/is.follow" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Folo"

Printed paths remain. A missing-path error means that exact item is absent; permission errors leave it unknown. A kept container or support folder is expected if retaining local data, and this does not verify cloud sync or account deletion.

    What Mole lists

The exact container ~/Library/Containers/is.follow is selected by default when present and unprotected, so uncheck it when keeping local state. The display-name support folder ~/Library/Application Support/Folo is reviewed and unchecked by default. Remove data and settings with apps is off by default; opting in includes eligible reviewed data, while shared and protected stores retain individual review or protection.

    What this test covered

The Mac App Store app, main scripts and selected temporary cache were removed on September 21, 2026. The container remained after a system permission denial. The test did not verify OPML recovery, populated reading history, cloud sync or a Homebrew-managed uninstall.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
