How to uninstall Doubao Work on Mac
Doubao Work (豆包工作) is ByteDance's AI office agent. The app is DoubaoWork.app in Applications and shows as Doubao Work in the Dock and Login Items. It spreads its files wider than most apps: besides the usual places in ~/Library, it adds itself as a login item, installs a Finder extension, and creates a visible ~/DoubaoWork folder and a ~/Applications/Doubao Apps.localized folder. The largest part is ~/Library/Application Support/DoubaoWork (574 MB in this test), which holds the task sandbox runtime, per-task environments, connector runtimes and the built-in browser's data. Doubao Work's task mode page says that in local mode data is stored on your computer and that installed tools and skills stay on it long-term, so look through these folders before deleting them. This guide covers the Mac app downloaded from doubao.com/work. There is no Homebrew cask for Doubao Work; the doubao cask is the separate Doubao chat app.
Save task output before quitting
While the app is still open, find where each wanted task saved its output and copy those files, custom skills and needed local state outside the folders you will remove. Verify the copies before quitting or moving the app. Signing in again is not a backup of local task output.
Quit Doubao Work and turn off what it added
- Quit Doubao Work from its app menu or with Command-Q. It ran 26 processes in this test, including a built-in browser named DoubaoWork Browser. Search for Doubao in Activity Monitor and wait until they have exited. The Doubao chat app and the Doubao input method also match that search; leave them alone.
- Open System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions. Doubao Work added itself under Open at Login in this test; select it and click the minus button.
- In the Extensions part of the same pane, Doubao Work's Finder extension is listed with the app. Moving the app to the Trash removes it; you can turn it off here first.
Move the app to Trash
Open the Applications folder in Finder and move DoubaoWork to the Trash.
Where Doubao Work keeps its files
In Finder, press Shift + Command + G and check each location. Skip the ones that do not exist.
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
~/Library/Application Support/DoubaoWork |
The task sandbox runtime (about 300 MB, including a bundled Node and the downloaded archives it was unpacked from), one environment per task, connector runtimes and the built-in browser's storage | Remove it for a clean start; keep it only if you plan to reinstall soon |
~/DoubaoWork |
A visible folder with a skills subfolder, empty in this test |
Look inside and keep any skill you made |
~/Applications/Doubao Apps.localized |
Shortcuts the built-in browser creates for web apps, the same mechanism as Chrome's Chrome Apps.localized |
Remove it unless you still use those shortcuts |
~/Library/Caches/DoubaoWork, ~/Library/Caches/com.work.pc.doubao.browser |
Caches (63 MB in this test) | Remove with the app |
~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.work.pc.doubao.browser |
Web storage of the built-in browser | Remove with the app |
~/Library/Preferences/com.work.pc.doubao.plist, ~/Library/Preferences/com.work.pc.doubao.browser.plist, ~/Library/Preferences/com.work.pc.doubao.browser.helper.plist |
Preferences | Remove with the app |
~/Library/Containers/com.work.pc.doubao.FinderSyncExtension, ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.work.pc.doubao.FinderSyncExtension |
The Finder extension's data | Remove with the app |
~/Library/Application Support/Doubao |
Belongs to the Doubao chat app, whose Homebrew cask lists it | Keep it while you use the Doubao chat app |
~/.dws |
Written by tools that connect to DingTalk; other AI apps use it too | Keep it while any tool you use still connects to DingTalk |
Doubao Work's help center does not describe these paths; they come from this test. In this test the documents Doubao Work produced were not found in Documents, Desktop, Downloads or ~/DoubaoWork, so check where your own tasks saved their output in the app before you delete anything.
Check the result
pgrep -lf DoubaoWork.app
ls -d /Applications/DoubaoWork.app
pluginkit -m -v -p com.apple.FinderSync | grep -i doubao
ls -d "$HOME/Library/Application Support/DoubaoWork" ~/DoubaoWork "$HOME/Applications/Doubao Apps.localized"
- No output from
pgrepmeans no Doubao Work process is running. A listed line means Doubao Work or its built-in browser is still running; quit it before deleting more. ls -d /Applications/DoubaoWork.appprinting the path means the app is still there.- The
pluginkitfilter checks only reported Finder Sync registrations whose output containsdoubao; no match does not establish every extension has gone. Acom.work.pc.doubao.FinderSyncExtensionmatch shows a registration, not necessarily a running extension. Turn off this extension in System Settings, confirm your backups, and if macOS still locates its app in Trash, permanently delete only that DoubaoWork.app item before checking again; leave other Trash contents alone. - The last command prints each folder that still exists and reports "No such file or directory" for the rest.
Removing the app does not delete your Doubao account or its cloud data.
What Mole lists
When you remove Doubao Work with Mole:
- The three preferences files, both caches, the built-in browser's web storage, the Finder extension's container and scripts folder, a Doubao Work crash report in
~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports, the Chromium caches insideApplication Support/DoubaoWork(Crashpad,GrShaderCache,ShaderCache) and temporary caches are selected by default. The temporary caches include a copy of the built-in browser that Chromium keeps for code-signing checks, about 1 GB in this test. ~/Library/Application Support/DoubaoWork,~/DoubaoWorkand~/Applications/Doubao Apps.localizedstay unticked with “Remove data and settings with apps” off; turning it on can select eligible reviewed app data. Back up wanted output and skills first, and uncheck folders you want to keep.~/Library/Application Support/Doubaoand~/.dwsare not listed.- The login item goes away with the app.
What this test covered
Doubao Work 2.31.8 was downloaded from doubao.com, signed in on September 28, 2026, and used to upload a cloud-drive file, produce a document and look through some code, with its Work, Code and Design modes tried. It was quit and removed on September 29 with a development build of Mole, in a run with other AI apps. Before removal Mole's Status page showed it as one row of 26 processes using 2.41 GB of memory, and Login Items listed Doubao Work; after removal the login item was gone. With every row ticked, the app, ~/Library/Application Support/DoubaoWork, ~/DoubaoWork, ~/Applications/Doubao Apps.localized, the Finder extension's folders and the built-in browser's caches went to the Trash. ~/.dws and ~/Library/Application Support/Doubao stayed. Signing out, account deletion and cloud data were not tested.
