Choose the Right Update Channel on Windows
A browser notification, an update in Mole's Apps tab and Windows Update can all appear on the same day. They use different channels, so check which software each action will update.
Read the notes for Mole's own update
Click the Mole mark at the top left and choose Check for Updates. Read the changes, then install and restart. You can cancel a download and install later. When downloading on another PC, choose its x64 or Arm64 installer on the Windows website. The Apps tab does not update Mole itself.
Windows is still in testing. Compare your version with the Windows update notes; behavior described in a test article may not yet be in the version you installed.
Use each app's update channel
Mole checks other apps through winget. Available versions come from package sources, and an update runs the matching installer. Complete any request for administrator access, quitting the app or restarting before checking again.
Browsers and some other apps that keep themselves current open their own update entry instead of joining a batch reinstall. Finish there and return to Mole to recheck. Microsoft Store manages its apps; Settings › Windows Update manages Windows.
To see updates winget can identify, run this command in PowerShell. It lists updates without installing them:
winget upgrade
A list means winget found matching updates. An empty list does not establish that every installed app is current; an error means the check did not complete. Microsoft's upgrade documentation distinguishes listing, updating one app and batch updates. Unknown versions and pinned packages have separate conditions; you do not need to force them just to empty a list.
When the same update appears again
Open the app's About page to confirm its version, then check that the installer finished. Some changes need an app restart or a Windows restart. Vendor and package-source version strings can also differ, so running the same installer again may change nothing.
Mole leaves a version that remains after an update for inspection instead of repeatedly reinstalling it in a batch. If the package source has no installer for this PC's architecture or installation scope, check the app's official website or updater rather than replacing it with a package for another architecture.
