Updates
Windows is still in testing. These notes describe changes in test versions; check the version shown in the app after downloading. Use the Mole menu to check for updates, or download the matching x64 or Arm64 installer from the Windows page.
0.4.0
- Uninstall finds more app data and settings, while leaving browser profiles, chat history and project files for individual review and preserving data shared with another installed copy.
- Uninstall can select an app's own data folders through an optional setting, and keeps manual selections when leftover checks finish at different times.
- Startup shows one list with removable, broken entries backed up before deletion, and preserves tasks that still run another program.
- Updates improves matching for apps installed in multiple architectures and checks the installed result after an update.
- Clean adds AI tool caches and only removes Go build-cache entries unused for more than five days, while keeping command-line tools running.
- Clean shows the selected cleanable size separately when it differs from the total found, and keeps personal data out of bulk selection.
- Analyze corrects disk accounting and saved-map recovery, with labels that stay readable as the map changes.
- Status keeps network details local to the PC, names battery charging and discharging, and stops freezing the process list after leaving the page.
- Keep Screen On keeps the remaining session after an update or language change, and the tray puts its controls, device information and totals together.
- Settings opens Apps and Status directly, groups related preferences, and adds two tray runners alongside updated icons and translations.
- Interface aligns buttons, checkboxes, menus and result panels across the five pages, including Chinese text weights and the Clean Screen verses.
0.3.0
- Mole for Windows is now sold as its own license for two PCs, and after checkout the purchase page shows your key right away.
- Clean clears the Windows Update and Store downloads Delivery Optimization keeps for other PCs, which can reach several gigabytes, without asking for administrator rights.
- Clean covers QQ Browser, 360 Secure Browser, WeChat and WeCom, offers the old app versions Scoop keeps, and lets an administrator clear the driver installers NVIDIA leaves unpacked on the system drive.
- In the Clean review a row can be unticked again, and All never ticks a row that needs administrator rights.
- Uninstall finds the folder of installers that name none, so the app is closed first and fully removed, and finds more of what TeamSpeak, Thunder, WPS and several developer tools leave in your home folder.
- Uninstall finds what AI apps leave in your home folder, such as LM Studio's models and the folders of Kimi, CodeBuddy and WorkBuddy, lists them for review, and closes a local model server still running from an app's data.
- An app whose uninstaller is already gone can still be removed from the list, and an uninstaller that does nothing in silent mode opens its own window instead.
- When a folder cannot be moved, Mole also names the programs working inside it or using a file from it, and offers Quit only for programs with a window.
- Updating a browser opens its own update page, and Mole's own update card shows download progress on its own row and can cancel a download.
- A running Keep Screen On session shows in the title bar with its time left, and a click stops it.
- Optimize no longer asks for administrator rights to retrim a PC that only has hard disks.
- Esc closes whatever panel is open, Ctrl+Alt+Win+Esc ends Clean Screen, and with Skip Intro on Analyze opens your last map.
0.2.4
- A new app icon: the mole on its own with a white outline, clear on light and dark taskbars.
- Uninstall finds much more of what apps leave behind: link handlers, startup entries, browser extension hosts, file types and COM classes that point at the removed app, profiles saved under an app's internal name, and the known folders of JetBrains IDEs, QQ, WeCom, WeChat and Python.
- What an uninstaller writes after you reviewed the list is shown afterwards for review, and a folder another program still holds is retried in the background until it goes.
- Uninstall results say what really happened: installers with a silent mode run quietly, anything that stayed on disk is counted, and an uninstall that finishes at the next restart says so.
- WeChat's chat history is offered for review when you uninstall it, never ticked for you, and Apps has a filter for the apps that came with Windows.
- Clean reaches the Windows folders that need administrator rights, such as system temp files, error reports and crash dumps, with one prompt, and adds the Scoop download cache and Steam's and NVIDIA's shader caches.
- Optimize checks the drive before it works, leaves a low battery alone, retrims every drive and removes Startup shortcuts whose program is gone.
- Doctor reports a failing drive, device problems, activation, Defender definitions and pending updates, and says when Windows is too old or the account cannot get administrator rights.
- When a file cannot be moved, Analyze and Apps name the programs holding it, and Analyze explains the large items people usually find on a full drive.
- Mole uses less memory and power while it sits in the tray, a Store app shows as one row in Status, and network rates no longer spike when an adapter appears.
- Keyboard shortcuts include Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+5 for the tabs and Ctrl+, for Settings.
- A trial use is counted only when the run completes, and activation names the proxy only when a proxy is what blocked it.
0.2.3
- Mole keeps a record of every license check in its logs folder, so a failed activation can be traced to a timeout, a proxy or a blocked request.
0.2.2
- The window fits small screens: it opens with room around it and can be made smaller, with everything scaled to fit.
- Status tile icons read as one size and sit level with their titles.
- Clean Screen stays above every window, Mole included, and its exit button shows the hand pointer.
- Security, device-management, VPN and proxy software stay switched on in Startup: their rows are locked.
- Optimize removes a startup entry only when its program is really gone, not when it sits on an unplugged or network drive.
- Activating behind a proxy that Cloudflare challenges now says it is a connection problem, instead of calling the license inactive.
- Clean lists the shortcuts left behind by apps you already uninstalled elsewhere, and moves them to the Recycle Bin.
