How to uninstall Zalo on Mac
Save wanted Zalo messages and media before removal. The official site describes its messaging service; removing the Mac client does not delete the account. Quit Zalo, then copy the observed ~/Library/Application Support/ZaloData to a checked backup if keeping its contents. A folder copy alone does not prove that all chat history can be restored.
Remove the Mac client
Move Zalo.app from Applications to the Trash after checking the backup. Keep ZaloData until wanted conversations and attachments have been verified independently. The observed ~/Library/Application Support/Caches/zalo-updater is updater data, not a replacement for that backup.
For a Homebrew installation, the current cask supports:
brew uninstall --cask zalo
Ordinary removal removes the app. brew uninstall --cask --zap zalo additionally targets Application Support/Zalo and ZaloPC, com.vng.zalo.*.plist preferences and saved state. It does not name ZaloData and ignores Mole checkbox choices; review and back up those targets before using zap.
Check the result
ls -ld "/Applications/Zalo.app"
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Application Support/ZaloData"
A printed path remains. No such file or directory means only that exact path is absent; permission errors leave it unknown. Keeping ZaloData is expected when retaining local data, and these checks do not establish account deletion or complete history recovery.
What Mole lists
The selected app is checked by default. The display-name support folders from the cask are reviewed and unchecked by default; Remove data and settings with apps is off by default and may include eligible reviewed data when enabled. ZaloData was observed but not collected in this record, so do not assume it will appear or be removed. Shared and protected data keep their individual boundaries.
What this test covered
The official Mac app, after its own update, and selected updater data were removed with a source-built Mole on September 22, 2026. The first attempt was skipped while running; a rescan after the bundle changed preceded successful removal. ZaloData and a submitted updater job remained. Populated chat recovery, account deletion and Homebrew-managed uninstall were not tested.
