How to uninstall Yandex Browser on Mac
Save wanted bookmarks, passwords and browser files before removing Yandex Browser. Keep a local backup as well as any sync you use. This guide covers the official Mac app and Homebrew cask yandex; it does not remove Yandex Disk or delete your Yandex ID.
Remove the Mac browser
Quit Yandex Browser with Command + Q, then move Yandex.app from Applications to Trash. This follows the macOS part of the official removal instructions. The same page contains Windows uninstall options and a Linux deletion command; neither is a Mac procedure.
If you want a backup of the local browser state, quit first and copy ~/Library/Application Support/Yandex outside that directory before deleting data. Preserve any content used by another Yandex app rather than treating the vendor name as sole ownership proof.
Inspect local state
The Homebrew cask names these locations. It does not establish that every Yandex-branded file belongs to the browser.
| Location | What to do |
|---|---|
| ~/Library/Application Support/Yandex | Browser data identified in the recorded test. Keep or back up before removal; inspect any shared contents. |
| ~/.yandex | An additional zap target. Its contents were not established by this test; keep it unless you can confirm exclusive browser ownership. |
| ~/Library/Caches/Yandex | Inspect the cache after quitting, and preserve anything used by another Yandex product. |
| ~/Library/Preferences/ru.yandex.desktop.yandex-browser.plist | Browser preferences. Keep for a reinstall or remove to reset. |
| ~/Library/Saved Application State/ru.yandex.desktop.yandex-browser.savedState | Browser saved state. Remove only if no longer needed. |
Use Finder's Shift + Command + G and skip absent paths. Do not remove downloaded documents or a Yandex Disk sync folder as browser leftovers.
Check the result
pgrep -il Yandex
ls -d /Applications/Yandex.app "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Yandex" "$HOME/.yandex"
No process output means no matching process name is running. A match may belong to another Yandex product, so inspect it before quitting anything. Paths printed by ls remain; a missing-path error means that entry is absent, while a permission error leaves it unknown. Kept browser data is not a removal failure.
If you installed it with Homebrew
brew uninstall --cask yandex
This uninstalls without zap and asks the browser to quit. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap yandex applies every target above, including the browser profile and ~/.yandex, regardless of Mole's checkboxes.
Mole uninstalls browsers without --zap and removes the leftovers you select.
What Mole lists
~/Library/Application Support/Yandex is a browser-data review row, not selected by default or by the Remove data and settings with apps opt-in. Personal or sensitive profiles need an individual choice; shared or unverified ownership cannot be selected. The exact browser preferences and saved state are selected by default when present. Other Yandex products and their accounts remain separate.
What this test covered
Yandex Browser 26.8.0.1829 from the official package was copied to Applications and uninstalled on September 21, 2026, without signing in or a Homebrew receipt. The app and preferences went to Trash. Its 10.4 MB support folder was retained by the browser-data policy. Sync, recovery of a populated profile, ~/.yandex contents and Yandex Disk were not verified.
