How to uninstall Xunyin on Mac
Keep your photo library when removing Xunyin (寻隐). Its publisher's App Store description describes local AI photo indexing, while the current vendor site calls the Mac builds legacy. This guide covers the recorded Mac App Store app, not current iPhone-only instructions or a different Queryable edition.
Quit and preserve local state
Stop any indexing or search and quit 寻隐. If you want to retain its local app state, copy the existing ~/Library/Containers/com.mazzystar.QueryableChinese to an independent backup and verify the copy before deleting originals. A copy of that container is not a backup of your Photos library or iCloud originals.
Move 寻隐.app from Applications to the Trash in Finder. Keep the Photos library and original images; do not delete photos or an entire photo library as a way to uninstall a search tool. Review its Photos permission separately in System Settings if you no longer use it.
Review recorded app data
The test identified the main container above and ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.mazzystar.QueryableChinese. Open each existing path with Finder's Go › Go to Folder and remove only unwanted confirmed-owned local app data after quitting and checking the backup. Leave parent directories intact. Reinstalling a legacy app is not a verified recovery method for a saved index.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl '寻隐|QueryableChinese'
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.mazzystar.QueryableChinese"
No process match means this pattern found no matching arguments; identify a surviving match before quitting it. A printed container remains, expected if retained. A missing-path error means that exact folder is absent; permission or command errors leave the result unknown. Photos remaining in their library are the intended result.
What Mole lists
The main container and scripts folder are selected by default. Back up or uncheck wanted local state before removal; the optional app-data setting does not change those main-app defaults. These named app rows do not authorize deleting your Photos library or original pictures.
What this test covered
Xunyin 1.1.2 from the Mac App Store was removed on September 21 and retested on September 26, 2026. The later run removed the app and selected original data paths. Photo indexing, search accuracy, Photos permission approval and populated-index recovery were not tested.
