How to uninstall Witsy on Mac

Export wanted Witsy conversations to PDF, save generated images and keep a copy of local settings before removing the app. The current official README documents PDF export and BYOK providers, including independently installed Ollama and LM Studio. A PDF is not a full editable history or credential backup; keep other model tools and their data.

    Quit and remove Witsy

Finish active generation and quit Witsy. Inspect the observed ~/Library/Application Support/Witsy through Finder’s Go › Go to Folder, copy wanted local contents while the app is closed and check the backup before resetting it. Then move Witsy.app from Applications to the Trash. Removing the desktop client does not revoke provider API keys or cancel provider billing.

If you installed it with Homebrew

    brew uninstall --cask witsy

Quit first; the current cask manages the app and has no separate quit stanza. Additional zap targets are ~/Library/Application Support/Witsy and ~/Library/Logs/Witsy. Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap witsy uses both independently of Mole’s checkboxes; keep no-zap removal when retaining data. Mole only uses zap when the complete scope passes selection and shared-data checks, otherwise selected remnants use its own removal flow.

    Check the result

    ls -ld "/Applications/Witsy.app"
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Witsy" "$HOME/Library/Logs/Witsy"

Printed paths remain. A missing-path error means that exact item is absent; permission errors leave it unknown. Retained support data is expected when keeping settings. These commands do not verify PDF completeness, API accounts or external models.

    What Mole lists

The display-name support folder ~/Library/Application Support/Witsy is reviewed and unchecked by default. Uncheck data you still need before confirming removal. Remove data and settings with apps is off by default; enabling it includes eligible reviewed data, while shared model stores and protected data retain their boundaries.

    What this test covered

The copied official Mac app and selected support data were removed with a source-built Mole on September 22, 2026. No extra local-network permission was granted. Populated conversation recovery, PDF export, provider keys, external model removal and a Homebrew-managed uninstall were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
