How to uninstall Vrew on Mac

Save Vrew projects and wanted exported videos before removing the Mac app. Keep original media and project files in their actual locations, and copy wanted files outside every sync and removal root. An exported video does not replace an editable project; open the copied project while Vrew is still available to check it.

    Preserve app state and quit

The recorded local app state lived in ~/Library/Application Support/vrew. Finish editing and save first, quit Vrew, then copy that entire existing folder to a separate verified backup before clearing it. Keep media/project folders you chose outside this location. For the downloaded app, follow Apple's Finder removal instructions and move Vrew.app from Applications to the Trash after saving state.

If you installed it with Homebrew

The cask asks com.voyagerx.vrew to quit and removes its managed app without zap:

    brew uninstall --cask vrew

Zap additionally names ~/Library/Application Support/vrew, ~/Library/Preferences/com.voyagerx.vrew.plist, ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.voyagerx.vrew.savedState, and matching com.voyagerx.vrew.sfl* entries in ~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.sharedfilelist/com.apple.LSSharedFileList.ApplicationRecentDocuments. Back up app state, and do not delete that shared parent directory or assume the support folder is only cache.

Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap vrew ignores Mole's checkboxes. Mole uses zap only when its whole scope passes selection, ownership and safety checks; selected remnants otherwise use its own Trash flow. Account and subscription changes remain separate.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl vrew
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Application Support/vrew"

No process match means no arguments matched this pattern. A printed support folder remains, expected if retained. A missing-path error concerns only that folder; other errors are inconclusive and neither result proves project recovery. Open your copied project and exports to verify them separately.

    What Mole lists

The lowercase display-name support folder needs review, starting unchecked with Remove data and settings with apps off. Enabling it can preselect eligible unshared app data; keep it unchecked to preserve state. Exact app-ID preferences and window state follow their default rules. Files saved in your own media/project locations are not automatically covered by these app-state paths.

    What this test covered

On September 22, 2026, the official-download Vrew 4.6.1 app was copied into Applications, launched and removed with its selected support folder. Child cache entries were already absent after their parent was removed. Editable-project restoration, video production, account changes and Homebrew were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
