How to uninstall Typeless on Mac
Save wanted dictated text before removing Typeless. Its official help center covers setup and billing separately; removing the desktop app is not subscription cancellation. This guide covers the official-download app and Homebrew cask typeless.
Quit and preserve local state
Finish dictation, save the resulting text and quit Typeless. Confirm attributed processes have stopped in Activity Monitor. Copy the two existing support folders below to an independent private backup and verify it before clearing original settings or local state.
Move Typeless.app from Applications to the Trash in Finder. Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions and review privacy permissions you granted if no longer needed. Manage a paid subscription separately through your account.
Review cask-declared data
The current cask lists:
~/Library/Application Support/now.typeless.desktop: exact current app-ID support data; back up before removal.~/Library/Application Support/typeless: display-name support data; keep until wanted state is safely preserved.~/Library/Caches/typeless: app cache, removable after quitting.~/Library/Preferences/now.typeless.desktop.plistand~/Library/Preferences/com.typeless.plist: current and additional cask-declared preferences, inspect each before resetting.~/Library/Saved Application State/now.typeless.desktop.savedState: window state.
It also names this app's now.typeless.desktop.sfl* entries inside ~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.sharedfilelist/com.apple.LSSharedFileList.ApplicationRecentDocuments. Inspect only matching entries, keeping the shared parent. Use Finder's Go › Go to Folder for existing paths; do not treat a whole support folder as disposable cache.
If you installed it with Homebrew
The cask declares no separate ordinary uninstall step beyond its managed app.
brew uninstall --cask typeless
Zap removes both support folders and the remaining listed state above. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap typeless ignores Mole's checkboxes. Mole uses zap only when its entire scope passes selection, ownership and safety checks; selected remnants otherwise use its own Trash flow.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl Typeless
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Application Support/now.typeless.desktop" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/typeless"
No process match means no arguments matched that name; identify a surviving match before quitting it. Printed folders remain and are expected if retained. A missing-path error means that exact folder is absent; other errors are inconclusive. Folder existence does not verify restored settings or subscription status.
What Mole lists
Exact current-ID support, preference and window-state rows are selected by default, so back up and uncheck wanted data. The display-name support row starts unchecked with Remove data and settings with apps off; enabling it can preselect eligible unshared data. Additional cask-derived state needs review according to the actual row, rather than being assumed owned by every Typeless version.
What this test covered
On September 22, 2026, the official-download Typeless 2.7.0 app was copied into Applications, opened to its login screen without signing in, and removed with selected support data. Dictation, populated-history recovery, subscription management and the Homebrew route were not tested.
