How to uninstall Topaz Photo on Mac
Keep original images, edited output and custom presets before removing Topaz Photo. This is the current com.topazlabs.TopazPhoto product, not legacy Photo AI. The preset documentation identifies ~/Library/Application Support/Topaz Labs LLC/Topaz Photo/Presets for Mac presets; copy wanted presets and verify your files before deleting app data.
Quit the app and loaded plugins
Finish processing and save wanted results. Quit Topaz Photo and any photo editor currently using its plugins before changing files. Copy wanted existing Topaz Photo support data to an independent private backup, keeping original images and outputs elsewhere.
For the direct installation, the Mac section of Topaz's removal instructions uses Finder's Applications folder and Trash. Move Topaz Photo.app there after backups are checked. Keep it recoverable until verification is complete; use only exact app-owned preferences for a reset, not every Topaz file.
Review verified local state
The current cask names:
~/Library/Application Support/Topaz Labs LLC/Topaz Photo: photo app support and presets, keep wanted contents.~/Library/Caches/Topaz Labs LLC/Topaz Photo: app-specific cache.~/Library/Preferences/com.topazlabs.Topaz Photo.plistand~/Library/Preferences/com.topazlabs.TopazPhoto.plist: declared preferences, inspect before resetting.~/Library/Containers/com.topazlabs.TopazPhotopluginand~/Library/Application Scripts/com.topazlabs.TopazPhotoplugin: plugin data and scripts, review ownership and permissions separately.
Use Finder's Go › Go to Folder after quitting, skip missing items and remove only unwanted confirmed-owned leaves. Keep the shared Topaz Labs LLC parent and Topaz Video or other products' data.
If you installed it with Homebrew
This cask runs a pkg installer. Ordinary uninstall processes the com.topazlabs.TopazPhoto receipt and deletes the app plus declared integrations even without zap. Close the host editors and review those integrations before running:
brew uninstall --cask topaz-photo
The declared deletions include TopazPhoto.plugin, TopazPhotoApply.plugin, TopazPhotoAutomate.plugin and TopazPhotoGather.plugin inside /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CC, and ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Modules/Topaz Photo.lrplugin. It also names ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/External Editor Presets/TopazGigapixel.lrtemplate, ~/Library/Application Support/Affinity Photo 2/Plugins/TopazGigapixel.plugin and ~/Library/Application Support/Capture One/Plug-ins/TopazGigapixel.coplugin. Do not assume the Gigapixel-named entries are unaffected; inspect their use and keep needed presets before using the cask route. Those ordinary actions are not controlled by zap checkboxes.
Zap additionally removes the six data locations above. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap topaz-photo ignores Mole's selections. Mole uses zap only when its entire scope passes selection, ownership and safety checks; selected remnants otherwise use its own Trash flow.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl 'Topaz Photo'
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Topaz Labs LLC/Topaz Photo" "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.topazlabs.TopazPhotoplugin"
pkgutil --pkgs | grep -i 'com.topazlabs.TopazPhoto'
No process match means no arguments matched that name, not that every editor plugin is unloaded. Printed folders remain, expected if retained. A successful error-free receipt query with no matching line only means no receipt matched this pattern, not that every plugin file is absent. Missing-path errors refer only to that exact item; other errors are inconclusive.
What Mole lists
The product-specific nested support/cache folders and plugin data need review: with Remove data and settings with apps off they start unchecked, and eligible unshared review data can be preselected when it is on. Back up and uncheck wanted state. Exact current-ID preferences can be selected by default. Shared vendor parents and other products' data need their own ownership boundaries; a listed plugin row is not a promise macOS will allow its removal.
What this test covered
On September 22, 2026, only the Topaz Photo 1.7.0 app payload was extracted from the official pkg and copied into Applications; the installer and its integration scripts were not run. The app was removed, a plugin container could not be moved because of macOS permissions, and product-nested support/cache data remained outside that review. Full pkg uninstall, host-editor integrations, model installation, photo processing and Homebrew were not tested.
