How to uninstall Text to Speech on Mac
Export the synthesized audio you want, save the original text and open the audio copies before removing Text to Speech. This guide covers the tested Mac App Store edition. Developer’s listing
The developer documents audio export. Keep Apple speech components and voices separate from this third-party app; a name containing texttospeech does not establish ownership.
Quit and remove the app
Quit Text to Speech. In Finder’s Go › Go to Folder, inspect ~/Library/Containers/social.steet.TextToSpeech, copy wanted contents and check the backup before deciding to reset local state. Then move Text to Speech.app from Applications to the Trash. Keep saved source text and exported audio at their own locations.
Check the result
ls -ld "/Applications/Text to Speech.app"
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/social.steet.TextToSpeech"
Printed paths remain. No such file or directory means that exact item is absent; permission errors leave it unconfirmed. A retained container is expected when keeping local data. This does not search every exported file or independent component.
What Mole lists
The exact main container ~/Library/Containers/social.steet.TextToSpeech and scripts ~/Library/Application Scripts/social.steet.TextToSpeech are selected by default when present and unprotected. Uncheck settings or local work you want to retain. Remove data and settings with apps is off by default; enabling it includes eligible reviewed data, while shared and protected data keeps its boundaries.
What this test covered
The Mac App Store app was removed on September 21, 2026, with its container initially retained after a system denial. A September 26 repeat using a source-built Mole removed the app and selected local rows. This did not test audio-export recovery or system voice recovery. That repeat also removed Apple speech-component rows selected in that run; this outcome does not establish that they belonged to this app or that deleting system speech data is safe. Temporary WebKit endpoints still appeared in the rescan.
