How to uninstall Taobao Desktop on Mac

Save important chat content and local files before removing Taobao Desktop. Its Mac App Store listing describes multi-device messages, but that is not a verified backup of every local item. The recorded installation used com.taobao.pcdesktop; the separate Homebrew download channel has different data locations.

    Preserve wanted data and quit

If you have another signed-in device, verify wanted chats and account records there. Save local attachments independently, quit Taobao Desktop and its attributed login helper, then copy the existing main container and wanted group below to a private backup outside every sync root and removal folder. Verify the copies before clearing originals.

Move 淘宝桌面版.app from Applications to the Trash in Finder. Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for a remaining Taobao entry. Removing the Mac app does not itself delete your Taobao account or orders.

Review the recorded App Store state

    • ~/Library/Containers/com.taobao.pcdesktop and ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.taobao.pcdesktop: main sandbox data and scripts support.
    • ~/Library/Group Containers/VJGTV94XY8.com.taobao.pcdesktop and ~/Library/Application Scripts/VJGTV94XY8.com.taobao.pcdesktop: recorded app-group state, keep unless wanted contents are backed up and exclusive ownership is confirmed.

Open existing entries with Finder's Go › Go to Folder after quitting and trash only unwanted confirmed-owned app data after backup checks. Keep their parent directories and attachments you saved elsewhere.

If you installed it with Homebrew

The current taobao cask uses the vendor's DMG and declares no separate ordinary uninstall step beyond its managed app.

    brew uninstall --cask taobao

Zap names ~/Library/Application Support/taobao, ~/Library/Logs/taobao, ~/Library/Caches/com.taobao.desktop, ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.taobao.desktop and ~/Library/Preferences/com.taobao.desktop.plist. These are cask-declared locations, distinct from the tested App Store sandbox above. Back up wanted desktop state and attachments before resetting them. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap taobao ignores Mole's checkboxes. Mole uses zap only when its full scope passes selection, ownership and safety checks; selected remnants otherwise use its own Trash flow.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl '淘宝桌面版|Taobao'
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.taobao.pcdesktop" "$HOME/Library/Group Containers/VJGTV94XY8.com.taobao.pcdesktop"

No process match means this pattern found no matching arguments; identify a surviving match before quitting it. Printed folders remain and may be expected if retained. A missing-path error means that exact folder is absent; other errors leave the result unknown. This query does not verify chat recovery or server account state.

    What Mole lists

For the recorded App Store identity, the main container, scripts folder and exact recent-document entry are selected by default. Back up and uncheck wanted local state. The app group and its scripts folder require individual review and ownership checks; enabling Remove data and settings with apps does not automatically select shared-group rows. For the cask's display-name support folder, ordinary reviewed app data starts unchecked with that option off and eligible unshared data can be preselected when it is on.

    What this test covered

The Mac App Store 2.4.5 app was removed on September 21 and retested on September 26, 2026. The later run removed the app, selected main data and the group's scripts folder, but kept the Group Container when ownership became unverifiable. Signed-in chat recovery, attachment restoration, account changes and the Homebrew channel were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
