How to uninstall Taio on Mac

Save Markdown documents, clipboard clippings and text actions before removing Taio. The official site describes an open file system and iCloud-synced clippings, so documents and cloud state need their own backups. This guide covers the Mac App Store edition.

    Preserve text before removal

Save open documents and copy wanted files, clippings and action definitions to an independent location outside every sync root and removal folder. Open copies of important documents to verify them. If you use iCloud and have another synced device, check the wanted state there too.

Quit Taio, then copy the existing main container and app group below if you need a backup of local state. Keep originals until recovery of wanted actions or clippings is confirmed. Move Taio.app from Applications to the Trash in Finder. A monthly or yearly Pro subscription is managed separately from app removal.

    Review the App Store locations

    • ~/Library/Containers/app.cyan.taio and ~/Library/Application Scripts/app.cyan.taio: main sandbox data and scripts support.
    • ~/Library/Containers/app.cyan.taio.share and ~/Library/Application Scripts/app.cyan.taio.share: the bundled Share extension's local data and scripts.
    • ~/Library/Containers/app.cyan.taio.widget and ~/Library/Application Scripts/app.cyan.taio.widget: the bundled widget's local data and scripts.
    • ~/Library/Group Containers/group.taio.share and ~/Library/Application Scripts/group.taio.share: app-group state; keep until backup and exclusive ownership are confirmed.
    • ~/Library/Caches/CloudKit/app.cyan.taio: app-specific sync cache, not a copy of your documents or clippings.

These paths were recorded in the test. Use Finder's Go › Go to Folder, skip missing entries and trash only unwanted confirmed-owned local data after backup checks. Keep document folders and shared parents.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl Taio
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/app.cyan.taio" "$HOME/Library/Group Containers/group.taio.share"

No process result means no arguments matched that name; identify a surviving match before quitting it. Printed folders remain and are expected if retained. A missing-path error means that exact folder is absent; permissions or command errors are inconclusive. A remaining folder does not establish that document or action recovery works.

    What Mole lists

The main container/scripts, app-specific CloudKit cache and confirmed own bundled Share/widget folders are selected by default. Back up and uncheck wanted data. The app group and its scripts folder require individual review, and the app-data option does not automatically select those shared rows or bypass ownership checks.

    What this test covered

The Mac App Store installation was removed on September 21 and retested on September 26, 2026. The later Taio 1.68.0 run removed selected main and extension data but kept the app group when ownership changed during the run. Populated document/clipping/action recovery and iCloud synchronization were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
