How to uninstall Speedtest on Mac
Save or share wanted historical test results before removing Speedtest. This guide covers the tested Mac App Store edition. Developer’s listing
Finish any running speed test, then quit the menu-bar app. Keep network settings and independent command-line speed-test tools; removing the Mac App Store app does not require changing your connection.
Quit and remove the app
Quit Speedtest, open ~/Library/Containers/com.ookla.speedtest-macos through Finder’s Go › Go to Folder, and copy wanted local contents while the app is closed. Check the backup before resetting it, then move Speedtest.app from Applications to the Trash.
Check the result
ls -ld "/Applications/Speedtest.app"
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.ookla.speedtest-macos"
Printed paths remain. No such file or directory means that exact item is absent; permission errors leave it unknown. Kept data is expected when retaining settings, and this does not verify historical result recovery or independent CLI removal.
What Mole lists
The exact main container is selected by default when present and unprotected. Uncheck local data you need. Independent command-line tools are outside this app’s removal scope. Remove data and settings with apps is off by default; enabling it includes eligible reviewed data while shared and protected items retain their boundaries.
What this test covered
The Mac App Store app was removed on September 21, 2026, initially retaining a denied main container. A September 26 repeat with a source-built Mole removed the app and selected main rows. No historical result recovery or independent CLI removal was tested.
