How to uninstall Smart Trash Can on Mac
Finish any active cleanup and save settings you want to reuse before removing Smart Trash Can. This guide covers the tested Mac App Store edition. Developer’s listing
The developer describes app reset and uninstall actions. Do not run one of those actions against other apps merely to uninstall Smart Trash Can, and keep items already in the Finder Trash until you have reviewed them. Removing this cleaner does not reverse previous deletions.
Quit and remove the app
Quit Smart Trash Can. In Finder’s Go › Go to Folder, inspect ~/Library/Containers/com.thinkyeah.smarttrashcan, copy wanted contents and check the backup before deciding to reset local state. Then move Smart Trash Can.app from Applications to the Trash. Keep unrelated apps, caches and their data.
Check the result
ls -ld "/Applications/Smart Trash Can.app"
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.thinkyeah.smarttrashcan"
Printed paths remain. No such file or directory means that exact item is absent; permission errors leave it unconfirmed. A retained container is expected when keeping local data. This does not search every exported file or independent component.
What Mole lists
The exact main container ~/Library/Containers/com.thinkyeah.smarttrashcan and scripts ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.thinkyeah.smarttrashcan are selected by default when present and unprotected. Uncheck settings or local work you want to retain. Remove data and settings with apps is off by default; enabling it includes eligible reviewed data, while shared and protected data keeps its boundaries.
What this test covered
The Mac App Store app was removed on September 21, 2026, with its container initially retained after a system denial. A September 26 repeat using a source-built Mole removed the app and selected local rows. This did not test other-app cleanup or deleted-file recovery.
