How to uninstall sleek on Mac

sleek is an open-source, minimalist task manager built around the plain-text todo.txt format. Because sleek strictly adheres to the Todo.txt standard, your tasks are stored directly in your todo.txt or done.txt text file wherever you chose to save it (such as Documents or a cloud folder). Removing the app does not delete that todo file. However, desktop application preferences, window geometry, recently opened file paths, and custom filter presets are kept inside Electron application support. Copy ~/Library/Application Support/sleek first if you want to preserve your custom filter views and file bookmarks. This guide covers the official Mac app and Homebrew cask sleek-app.

    Quit and remove the app

    1. Press Command + Q inside sleek, or choose sleek › Quit sleek.
    2. Open Finder, navigate to Applications, and drag sleek.app to the Trash.

    Review local data

The support folder was verified during the recorded test. The preferences file and saved-state folder are declared in the Homebrew cask. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G to inspect each path. Skip any path that is not present on your system.

Location What it holds What to do
~/Library/Preferences/com.todotxt.sleek.plist Window preferences and state Preferences. Mole selects this file when it is present.
~/Library/Saved Application State/com.todotxt.sleek.savedState Saved window restoration state Saved window state from the cask. Mole selects this folder when it is present.
~/Library/Application Support/sleek Electron app data, filter views, and file bookmarks Listed for review, and not selected while Remove data and settings with apps is off. This is not your todo file.
~/Library/Application Support/sleek/Cache Chromium disk cache Rebuilds on the next launch. Selected by default, as are Code Cache, GPUCache, DawnGraphiteCache, DawnWebGPUCache, and blob_storage when those folders exist.

    Check the result

    pgrep -il sleek
    ls -ld "/Applications/sleek.app" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/sleek" "$HOME/Library/Preferences/com.todotxt.sleek.plist" "$HOME/Library/Saved Application State/com.todotxt.sleek.savedState"

    • No output from pgrep means no sleek process is running.
    • A printed line from pgrep indicates an active process. Verify it in Activity Monitor before continuing.
    • An error from pgrep does not prove the app has quit.
    • A path printed by ls is still present on disk.
    • No such file or directory confirms that path has been completely removed.
    • Permission denied means your account lacks read access for that directory. Check your todo.txt file in the folder where you saved it.

If you installed it with Homebrew

    brew uninstall --cask sleek-app

The cask zap list includes ~/Library/Application Support/sleek, ~/Library/Preferences/com.todotxt.sleek.plist, and ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.todotxt.sleek.savedState. Running brew uninstall --cask --zap sleek-app removes that whole list and does not read Mole's checkboxes. It does not delete a todo file you saved somewhere else. Mole checks the full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files, or a path it cannot verify. Leftovers you selected still use Mole's own removal.

    What Mole lists

Mole selects the app, ~/Library/Preferences/com.todotxt.sleek.plist, and ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.todotxt.sleek.savedState when those items are present. Inside ~/Library/Application Support/sleek, the cache folders Cache, Code Cache, GPUCache, DawnGraphiteCache, DawnWebGPUCache, and blob_storage are selected by default when they exist. The support folder itself is listed and not selected while Remove data and settings with apps in General › Cleaning is off. Your plain-text todo file is completely outside this list.

These defaults assume “Remove data and settings with apps” is off. Opting in also selects eligible reviewed app data; shared stores and protected data retain individual review or stay locked.

    What this test covered

On October 9, 2026, sleek 2.0.29 from the official arm64 package was copied into Applications. A new todo file was created outside Documents, and the app was then removed. The recorded removal included the app, the preferences file, and ~/Library/Application Support/sleek after that support row was selected. The saved-state folder was not present. Status showed one sleek row while it was running. No new launch agent was found. Mole's update page was not opened. A Homebrew install was not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 824 Mac apps.
