How to uninstall Simple Comic on Mac

Simple Comic is a classic open-source comic and manga viewer for macOS that supports CBR, CBZ, and PDF archives. Your actual comic books and graphic novel files stay in the folders where you keep them (such as Downloads, Books, or external drives). Removing Simple Comic does not delete those files. Because Simple Comic is sandboxed, macOS stores its reading progress, bookmark history, and Quick Look extensions inside sandbox containers. This guide covers the official Mac app and Homebrew cask simple-comic.

    Quit and remove the app

    1. Press Command + Q inside Simple Comic, or choose Simple Comic › Quit Simple Comic. If a file open dialog appears on launch, cancel it.
    2. Open Finder, navigate to Applications, and drag Simple Comic.app to the Trash.

    Review local data

The sandbox container and application script directories below were created during the recorded test. The support folder is declared in the Homebrew cask. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G to inspect each path. Skip any path that is not present on your system. If macOS restricts moving a container to the Trash due to active QuickLook locks, leave it in place; never force it with sudo.

Location What it holds What to do
~/Library/Containers/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic Sandbox container, reading history, and bookmarks Sandbox container. Mole selects it when it is present. It can hold reading state. macOS may block moving it to the Trash.
~/Library/Containers/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic.QuickComic-Preview Quick Look preview extension container Quick Look preview container. Mole selects it when it is present. macOS may block moving it.
~/Library/Containers/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic.QuickComic-Thumbnailer Quick Look thumbnail extension container Thumbnail container. Mole selects it when it is present. macOS may block moving it.
~/Library/Application Scripts/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic Main app sandbox extension scripts Application scripts. Mole selects this folder when it is present.
~/Library/Application Scripts/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic.QuickComic-Preview Quick Look preview scripts Preview scripts. Mole selects this folder when it is present.
~/Library/Application Scripts/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic.QuickComic-Thumbnailer Thumbnail generation scripts Thumbnail scripts. Mole selects this folder when it is present.
~/Library/Application Support/Simple Comic Legacy application support named by the cask Support folder named by the cask. Listed for review, and not selected while Remove data and settings with apps is off.

    Check the result

    pgrep -il 'Simple Comic'
    ls -ld "/Applications/Simple Comic.app" "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic" "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic.QuickComic-Preview" "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic.QuickComic-Thumbnailer" "$HOME/Library/Application Scripts/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Simple Comic"

    • No output from pgrep means no Simple Comic process is running.
    • A printed line from pgrep indicates an active process. Verify it in Activity Monitor before continuing.
    • An error from pgrep does not prove the app has quit.
    • A path printed by ls is still present on disk.
    • No such file or directory confirms that path has been completely removed.
    • Permission denied means your account lacks read access for that directory. A remaining container does not mean the app is still installed.

If you installed it with Homebrew

    brew uninstall --cask simple-comic

The cask zap list is ~/Library/Application Support/Simple Comic. It does not name the sandbox containers. Running brew uninstall --cask --zap simple-comic removes that zap path and does not read Mole's checkboxes. Mole checks the full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files, or a path it cannot verify. Leftovers you selected still use Mole's own removal.

    What Mole lists

Mole selects the app and, when present, ~/Library/Containers/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic, ~/Library/Containers/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic.QuickComic-Preview, ~/Library/Containers/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic.QuickComic-Thumbnailer, ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic, ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic.QuickComic-Preview, and ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.ToWatchList.SimpleComic.QuickComic-Thumbnailer. ~/Library/Application Support/Simple Comic is listed and not selected while Remove data and settings with apps in General › Cleaning is off. Comic files outside these paths are not part of that list.

These defaults assume “Remove data and settings with apps” is off. Opting in also selects eligible reviewed app data; shared stores and protected data retain individual review or stay locked.

    What this test covered

On October 9, 2026, Simple Comic 1.9.9 from the official Universal package was copied into Applications. The open panel was cancelled, and the app was then removed. The three application-script folders were removed. macOS blocked moving the three containers to the Trash, and they remained at the original paths. Mole did not ask for an administrator password to force them. ~/Library/Application Support/Simple Comic was not present. Status showed one Simple Comic row while it was running. No new launch agent was found. Mole's update page was not opened. A Homebrew install was not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 824 Mac apps.
