How to uninstall SigmaOS on Mac
Save wanted workspace links and browser data before removing SigmaOS. Its official privacy policy distinguishes local browsing state from optional cloud session syncing, and its FAQ says passwords use Apple Keychain. Uninstalling SigmaOS is not a reason to erase your Keychain. This guide covers the official Mac app and Homebrew cask sigmaos.
Keep workspaces before quitting
While SigmaOS is available, copy links or information you want to open in another browser and check that copy. Quit with Command + Q, then move SigmaOS.app from Applications to Trash. If it will not quit, inspect the SigmaOS process in Activity Monitor rather than repeatedly sending an AppleScript quit command.
Deleting the app does not cancel a SigmaOS subscription or remove its cloud data. Use the account and support options in the official documentation for those actions.
Treat the container as browser data
The Homebrew cask names two locations; the recorded Mac test also found the app's container.
| Location | What to do |
|---|---|
| ~/Library/Containers/com.sigmaos.sigmaos.macos | Browser's local container. Keep it for a reinstall, or copy it outside that folder before removing its state. Restoration was not verified. |
| ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.sigmaos.sigmaos.macos | App-specific scripts. Inspect after quitting; do not delete the shared Application Scripts parent. |
Use Finder's Shift + Command + G and skip absent paths. Preserve Apple Keychain and independent password-manager data. Do not assume that cloud syncing has preserved every local workspace or site session.
Check the app and container
pgrep -il SigmaOS
ls -d /Applications/SigmaOS.app "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.sigmaos.sigmaos.macos" "$HOME/Library/Application Scripts/com.sigmaos.sigmaos.macos"
No process output means no matching process name is running; a match needs a check in Activity Monitor. A printed path still exists, a missing-path error means it is absent, and a permission error leaves its state unknown. A container deliberately retained for recovery is an expected result.
If you installed it with Homebrew
brew uninstall --cask sigmaos
This uninstalls without zap. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap sigmaos also removes the container and app scripts above, regardless of Mole's checkboxes; save wanted browser state first.
Mole uninstalls browsers without --zap and removes the leftovers you select.
What Mole lists
The com.sigmaos.sigmaos.macos container is listed as sensitive browser data, not selected by default, bulk selection or the Remove data and settings with apps opt-in. An individually reviewed sensitive profile can be selected; shared or unverified ownership cannot. The app's own exact Application Scripts entry is selected by default when present. Apple Keychain is outside this app's uninstall list.
What this test covered
SigmaOS 1.19.0 from the official package was copied to Applications and uninstalled on September 21, 2026, without signing in or a Homebrew receipt. The app and its own scripts went to Trash; the 616 KB browser container and the shared Sparkle Downloader container were retained. An AppleScript quit attempt hung in that run. Workspace recovery, cloud syncing, account deletion and subscription cancellation were not verified.
