How to uninstall SF Symbols on Mac
Export wanted custom SF Symbols templates before removing the design app. Apple's current custom-symbol instructions use File > Export Template for an SVG template. Verify the exported files and keep project assets elsewhere, then quit SF Symbols. Removing this app is separate from deleting Apple's system fonts or symbols used by other apps.
Remove the design app
Move SF Symbols.app from Applications to the Trash after checking saved resources. Keep Xcode, system resources and custom symbols already included in projects.
For Homebrew, the current cask supports:
brew uninstall --cask sf-symbols
Ordinary uninstall processes the SF Symbols package receipt for the installed macOS branch. Zap additionally targets only its exact com.apple.SFSymbols preference plist. Direct --zap ignores Mole selections; neither stanza names Apple's system font library or arbitrary exported templates.
ls -ld "/Applications/SF Symbols.app"
A printed path remains. A missing-path error applies only to that app location; permission errors leave it unknown. This check does not verify exported templates or every installed package resource.
What Mole lists
The selected app is checked by default. No data rows were recorded in this review, and Apple-owned data protection was not relaxed. Remove data and settings with apps is off by default; do not infer permission to delete system fonts, shared Apple data or project assets.
What this test covered
The maintainer-installed official design app was removed with source-built Mole on October 4, 2026. Only the app body was listed and removed. Custom-symbol export/recovery, package-wide resource removal, Status, update behavior and Homebrew-managed uninstall were not verified.
