How to uninstall Setapp on Mac
Save documents from any installed Setapp apps before removing the desktop client. The official uninstall flow starts inside Setapp with Help > Uninstall. Choose Keep Applications if keeping its installed apps, or review Uninstall Completely before choosing it. The vendor says Setapp apps cannot be used after the client is removed. Uninstalling the client does not cancel its subscription; cancellation is a separate account action.
Remove through the appropriate channel
Run the vendor flow before independently trashing Setapp. If the app was already moved away, that official page links SetappUninstaller. For Homebrew, the current cask supports:
brew uninstall --cask setapp
Ordinary uninstall unloads the listed SetappAgent, Assistant, Launcher and Updater services and removes the app. Zap additionally targets Setapp support patterns, FinderSync container/scripts, caches, HTTP storage, launch files, logs, preferences and saved state. It ignores Mole selections and does not perform subscription cancellation.
ls -ld "/Applications/Setapp.app"
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.setapp.DesktopClient.SetappAgent.FinderSyncExt"
Printed paths remain. Missing-path errors apply only to these locations; permission errors leave them unknown. They do not verify the subscription or every app installed through Setapp.
What Mole lists
The selected app is checked by default. Inspect the actual FinderSync extension container and script rows and their selections; its container was retained in this record. Keep wanted data unselected and let guard-refused containers remain. Remove data and settings with apps is off by default; broad or shared app collections require separate review.
What this test covered
The official client was removed with source-built Mole on October 3, 2026 after first launch without signing in or installing content. The FinderSync extension container remained after a permission failure. Vendor uninstaller execution, subscription cancellation and removal or recovery of installed Setapp apps were not tested.
