How to uninstall RuntimeViewer on Mac
RuntimeViewer is an Objective-C and Swift runtime browser designed for reverse-engineering and inspecting classes, methods, properties, ivars, and protocols across running macOS and iOS processes. Removing RuntimeViewer only removes this inspection tool; it does not terminate, alter, or damage any target processes, system frameworks, or application binaries you were inspecting. This guide covers the official Mac app and Homebrew cask runtimeviewer.
Quit and remove the app
- Press Command + Q inside RuntimeViewer, or choose RuntimeViewer › Quit RuntimeViewer. If macOS displays a prompt for Local Network access on launch, declining it prevents network discovery but does not interfere with deleting the app.
- Open Finder, navigate to Applications, and drag
RuntimeViewer.appto the Trash.
Review local data
The paths in the table below were verified during installation or declared in the Homebrew cask. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G to inspect each path. Skip any path that is not present on your Mac. Do not delete /Library/LaunchDaemons yourself; the cask names a daemon plist that is only installed if privileged root inspection was explicitly enabled, and normal unprivileged inspection never creates it.
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
~/Library/Preferences/com.JH.RuntimeViewer.plist |
Preferences and window settings | Preferences. Mole selects this file when it is present. |
~/Library/Caches/com.JH.RuntimeViewer |
Application runtime cache | Cache. Mole selects this folder when it is present. |
~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.JH.RuntimeViewer |
Network and HTTP session storage | HTTP storage. Mole selects this folder when it is present. |
~/Library/Application Support/RuntimeViewer |
App support files and saved inspector state | Listed for review, and not selected while Remove data and settings with apps is off. |
~/Library/Saved Application State/com.JH.RuntimeViewerCatalystHelper~iosmac.savedState |
Saved Catalyst helper state named by the cask | Saved state named by the cask. This test did not find it. |
~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.sharedfilelist/com.apple.LSSharedFileList.ApplicationRecentDocuments/com.jh.runtimeviewer.sfl* |
Recent-documents bookmark entry named by the cask | Recent-documents entry named by the cask. Do not remove the com.apple.sharedfilelist folder. |
Check the result
pgrep -il RuntimeViewer
ls -ld "/Applications/RuntimeViewer.app" "$HOME/Library/Preferences/com.JH.RuntimeViewer.plist" "$HOME/Library/Caches/com.JH.RuntimeViewer" "$HOME/Library/HTTPStorages/com.JH.RuntimeViewer" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/RuntimeViewer"
- No output from
pgrepmeans no RuntimeViewer process is running. - A printed line from
pgrepmeans an active process was found. Check Activity Monitor before continuing. - An error from
pgrepdoes not prove the app has quit. - A path printed by
lsis still present on disk. No such file or directoryconfirms that path has been completely removed.Permission deniedmeans your account lacks read access for that directory.
If you installed it with Homebrew
brew uninstall --cask runtimeviewer
The cask zap list includes /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.JH.RuntimeViewerService.plist, ~/Library/Application Support/RuntimeViewer, ~/Library/Caches/com.JH.RuntimeViewer, ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.JH.RuntimeViewer, ~/Library/Preferences/com.JH.RuntimeViewer.plist, ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.JH.RuntimeViewerCatalystHelper~iosmac.savedState, and the recent-documents entry ~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.sharedfilelist/com.apple.LSSharedFileList.ApplicationRecentDocuments/com.jh.runtimeviewer.sfl*. Running brew uninstall --cask --zap runtimeviewer removes that whole list and does not read Mole's checkboxes. Mole checks the full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files, or a path it cannot verify. Leftovers you selected still use Mole's own removal.
What Mole lists
Mole selects the app, ~/Library/Preferences/com.JH.RuntimeViewer.plist, ~/Library/Caches/com.JH.RuntimeViewer, and ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.JH.RuntimeViewer when those items are present. ~/Library/Application Support/RuntimeViewer is listed and not selected while Remove data and settings with apps in General › Cleaning is off. The LaunchDaemon path is outside this ordinary Trash removal. Leave /Library/LaunchDaemons alone unless you know that exact plist was installed for RuntimeViewer.
These defaults assume “Remove data and settings with apps” is off. Opting in also selects eligible reviewed app data; shared stores and protected data retain individual review or stay locked.
What this test covered
On October 9, 2026, RuntimeViewer 2.1.2 from the official Universal package was copied into Applications. The local-network prompt was declined, and the app was then removed. The recorded removal included the app, the preferences file, the cache folder, HTTP storage, and ~/Library/Application Support/RuntimeViewer after that support row was selected. The completion page still reported locations that were not selected. /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.JH.RuntimeViewerService.plist was not created. Status showed one RuntimeViewer row while it was running. No new launch agent was found. Mole's update page was not opened. A Homebrew install was not tested.
