How to uninstall PicView on Mac
Save wanted image edits and keep the original pictures in their actual folders before removing Picview. This guide covers the tested Mac App Store edition. Developer’s listing
This is the Chitaner Mac App Store viewer. Homebrew’s similarly named picview is Ruben2776’s different product, with PicView.app and a different data store; do not apply that cask to this installation.
Quit and remove the app
Quit Picview. In Finder’s Go › Go to Folder, inspect ~/Library/Containers/com.chitaner.Picview, copy wanted contents and check the backup before deciding to reset local state. Then move Picview.app from Applications to the Trash. Keep the original images and folders you browsed.
Check the result
ls -ld "/Applications/Picview.app"
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.chitaner.Picview"
Printed paths remain. No such file or directory means that exact item is absent; permission errors leave it unconfirmed. A retained container is expected when keeping local data. This does not search every exported file or independent component.
What Mole lists
The exact main container ~/Library/Containers/com.chitaner.Picview and scripts ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.chitaner.Picview are selected by default when present and unprotected. Uncheck settings or local work you want to retain. Remove data and settings with apps is off by default; enabling it includes eligible reviewed data, while shared and protected data keeps its boundaries.
What this test covered
The Mac App Store app was removed on September 21, 2026, with its container initially retained after a system denial. A September 26 repeat using a source-built Mole removed the app and selected local rows. This did not test image editing or recovery.
