How to uninstall Outerbase Studio on Mac

Outerbase Studio is a lightweight desktop database client for exploring and querying SQLite, PostgreSQL, MySQL, DuckDB, and other database engines. Removing Outerbase Studio does not delete your local database files (such as .sqlite or .duckdb files on disk) or remote database servers. However, saved database connection profiles, query history, and table bookmarks are stored locally inside Electron application support. Copy ~/Library/Application Support/outerbase-studio-desktop first if you want to preserve your saved connection profiles. This guide covers the official Mac app and Homebrew cask outerbase-studio.

    Quit and remove the app

    1. Press Command + Q inside Outerbase Studio, or choose Outerbase Studio › Quit Outerbase Studio. Make sure any active query or database connection has finished closing.
    2. Open Finder, navigate to Applications, and drag Outerbase Studio.app to the Trash. Leave the Trash until you confirm your database files and exported credentials are safe.

    Review local data

The following paths are managed by the app and named in the Homebrew cask. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G to inspect each location. Skip any path that does not exist on your Mac.

Location What it holds What to do
~/Library/Preferences/com.outerbase.studio.plist Window preferences and UI settings Preferences. Mole selects this file when it is present.
~/Library/Application Support/outerbase-studio-desktop Electron app data, saved connection profiles, and query history Listed for review, and not selected while Remove data and settings with apps is off. Copy it first if you added connections.
~/Library/Application Support/outerbase-studio-desktop/Cache Chromium disk cache Rebuilds on the next launch. Selected by default, as are Code Cache, DawnGraphiteCache, DawnWebGPUCache, and blob_storage when those folders exist.
~/Library/Logs/outerbase-studio-desktop Application runtime logs Logs. Listed for review, and not selected while the data option is off.

    Check the result

    pgrep -il outerbase
    ls -ld "/Applications/Outerbase Studio.app" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/outerbase-studio-desktop" "$HOME/Library/Logs/outerbase-studio-desktop" "$HOME/Library/Preferences/com.outerbase.studio.plist"

    • No output from pgrep means no matching Outerbase Studio process is running.
    • A printed line from pgrep means a process is still active. Open Activity Monitor to inspect it before continuing.
    • An error from pgrep does not prove the app has quit.
    • A path printed by ls is still present on disk.
    • No such file or directory confirms that path has been completely removed.
    • Permission denied means your user account lacks read permissions for that directory.

If you installed it with Homebrew

    brew uninstall --cask outerbase-studio

The cask zap list includes ~/Library/Application Support/outerbase-studio-desktop, ~/Library/Logs/outerbase-studio-desktop, and ~/Library/Preferences/com.outerbase.studio.plist. Running brew uninstall --cask --zap outerbase-studio removes that entire list unconditionally, erasing your saved database connections without reading Mole's checkboxes. Mole checks the full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files, or a path it cannot verify. Leftovers you selected still use Mole's own removal.

    What Mole lists

Mole selects the app and ~/Library/Preferences/com.outerbase.studio.plist when that file is present. Inside ~/Library/Application Support/outerbase-studio-desktop, the cache folders Cache, Code Cache, DawnGraphiteCache, DawnWebGPUCache, and blob_storage are selected by default when they exist. The support folder itself and ~/Library/Logs/outerbase-studio-desktop are listed and not selected while Remove data and settings with apps in General › Cleaning is off. Your actual database files outside these directories are not listed.

These defaults assume “Remove data and settings with apps” is off. Opting in also selects eligible reviewed app data; shared stores and protected data retain individual review or stay locked.

    What this test covered

On October 9, 2026, Outerbase Studio 0.1.29 from the official Universal package was copied into Applications, opened to the connection screen, and removed. No database connection was added. The recorded removal included the app, the preferences file, the support folder, and the logs folder after those rows were selected. Status showed one Outerbase Studio row while it was running. No new launch agent was found. Mole's update page was not opened. A Homebrew install was not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 824 Mac apps.
