How to uninstall Orange on Mac
Save the workflow and its source data before removing Orange. The official saving guide explains that .ows files store workflow structure and widget settings, but do not include the datasets needed to reproduce an analysis.
Save both parts
Use Cmd + S to save the workflow, then copy its input data as well. Check the copies before quitting Orange with Cmd + Q and moving the app from Applications to the Trash. The Intel cask names Orange3.app rather than Orange.app; remove the copy you actually installed.
Review local settings
After checking the workflow and dataset backups and quitting Orange, press Shift + Command + G in Finder to open the four locations below. Back up any app settings you want, then move the Orange items you no longer need to Trash, keeping saved workflows and input data.
The cask lists ~/Library/Application Support/Orange, ~/Library/Caches/Orange, ~/Library/Logs/Orange and ~/Library/Saved Application State/si.biolab.orange.savedState. Inspect support data before resetting it; caches and logs are separate from saved analyses.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl Orange
find /Applications -maxdepth 1 -iname 'Orange*.app' -print
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Orange" "$HOME/Library/Caches/Orange" "$HOME/Library/Logs/Orange"
Check a matching process's executable path. A missing-path error means that location is absent; a permission error leaves its state unknown. Preserved workflows and datasets are intentional.
If you installed it with Homebrew
brew uninstall --cask orange
A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap orange removes the four locations above regardless of Mole's choices. Mole uses zap only when the whole stanza passes its selection and safety checks. Unchecked or shared paths, paths outside the reviewed boundary and unsupported content suppress it; selected remnants use Mole's own removal path.
What Mole lists
Mole selects the app, attributable caches, logs and exact saved state by default. ~/Library/Application Support/Orange is unchecked with Remove data and settings with apps off; enabling it can preselect eligible reviewed app data. Inspect the selection before confirming. Independently saved workflows and source datasets are not blanket uninstall targets.
What this test covered
On September 21, 2026, Orange 3.40.0 from the official Mac package was opened and uninstalled. The select-all run removed the app, an empty support folder, caches and logs. No dataset was written, so populated settings, actual workflows, data recovery and Homebrew installation were not verified.
