How to uninstall OpenCat on Mac
Keep wanted conversations and configuration before removing OpenCat. The official FAQ treats OpenCat subscriptions and API services separately from the desktop application; moving the Mac app to the Trash does not cancel those services.
Preserve data and quit
Save wanted conversations and confirm a readable backup before resetting app data. If you rely on another device or a cloud copy, verify that copy separately rather than assuming the desktop app can recover it. Quit OpenCat with Cmd + Q, then move OpenCat.app from Applications to the Trash.
The local test found ~/Library/Application Support/tech.baye.OpenCat and ~/Library/Application Support/OpenCat. After confirming the backup and quitting, open each in Finder with Shift + Command + G and move only the OpenCat folder you chose to discard to the Trash. It also found ~/Library/Group Containers/group.tech.baye.openai; a group identifier needs its ownership checked before removal. Do not remove a shared Group Containers parent or another AI client's files.
Review the remaining app files
The current Homebrew cask also names these exact locations; their presence in the cask does not mean they were all observed in the test. After verifying your backup and quitting OpenCat, open each existing path with Finder Shift + Command + G and move only the OpenCat items you no longer need to the Trash. Skip missing locations and leave the shared CloudKit, com.crashlytics.data and SentryCrash parents alone.

Inspect them individually, keep them while wanted data or another installed app needs them, and remove only a confirmed unshared leaf. Mole keeps separate ownership review for these group rows.
Exact locations in the current cask.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl OpenCat
ls -ld /Applications/OpenCat.app "$HOME/Library/Application Support/tech.baye.OpenCat" "$HOME/Library/Group Containers/group.tech.baye.openai"
Inspect matching executable paths. Missing locations are absent paths; permission errors leave them unverified. A retained data group does not mean the app bundle is still installed. Confirm backups and any account or subscription separately.
If you installed it with Homebrew
brew uninstall --cask opencat
The cask defines its managed removal. Zap names OpenCat support data, bundle-owned container and preferences, app-specific SDK caches, and the group.tech.baye.openai group container and application-scripts leaf. These group locations can contain wanted app data; do not use a full reset without checking ownership and backup.
A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap opencat runs its whole zap list regardless of Mole's checkboxes. Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected.
What Mole lists
Mole selects exact bundle-owned support data, container and preferences when present; these rows can contain wanted data, so back up or uncheck them. ~/Library/Application Support/OpenCat is a review row, unchecked when Remove data and settings with apps in General > Cleaning is off. Turning it on can preselect eligible app data; uncheck this folder to retain it. Group rows keep individual review and a conflicting installed ownership claim blocks their deletion. A cask entry alone does not prove that a group appeared in a particular test.
What this test covered
On September 21, 2026, OpenCat 26.8.0 from the official Mac package was launched without signing in and removed. Selected support data and app-specific SDK cache were removed. The observed data group was not listed in that run, so its deletion was not tested. Conversation recovery, account sync, subscription cancellation and a Homebrew installation were not verified.
