How to uninstall Nowledge Mem on Mac
Back up Nowledge Mem knowledge before removing its Mac app or local engine. Data Transfer provides Settings › Data Transfer › Export, with optional original Library files and managed skills. Keep the export, including manifest.json, outside sync/removal roots and verify it. Search-index Optimize or Rebuild is not a backup.
Save local stores and stop integrations
Finish active memory work, export first and stop connected clients/CLI tasks, then quit Nowledge Mem. The recorded local folders were ~/Library/Application Support/NowledgeGraph for the SQLite knowledge graph, ~/ai-now for working memory, ~/.cache/nmem-rs for downloaded models and ~/.local/share/nowledge-mem for runtime state. Copy wanted existing folders separately before clearing them, keeping personal files and independent runtime consumers.
The privacy policy distinguishes device-local data from an explicitly enabled Cloud workspace: signing in does not silently upload your local knowledge. Verify the intended workspace and copy any wanted local files outside its sync/removal roots. After backup and stopping the engine, follow Apple's Finder instructions to move the Mac app to the Trash.
Independent CLI and connectors
The CLI guide supports a separate Python nmem-cli package and a desktop Settings › Preferences › Developer Tools › Install CLI entry at /usr/local/bin/nmem. Remove a separately installed package with its actual manager, such as pip uninstall nmem-cli for pip. Inspect a desktop-created launcher before moving only the owned file to the Trash in Finder.
The recorded ~/.local/bin/nmem and ~/.local/bin/browse-now were links into ~/.local/share/nowledge-mem. Check their targets before removing only those owned links, and keep the target if still needed. App removal does not automatically clear clients' MCP/connector settings. Remove only Nowledge Mem's configured entry or plugin through each client's own settings, preserving other tools and archives; local data deletion can affect the CLI too.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl 'Nowledge|nmem-server'
command -v nmem
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Application Support/NowledgeGraph" "$HOME/ai-now" "$HOME/.local/share/nowledge-mem" "$HOME/.local/bin/nmem" "$HOME/.local/bin/browse-now"
No process match means no arguments matched this pattern, not that a remote service stopped. command -v resolves an entry, not ownership; no output means none resolves in this shell. Printed folders or links remain, expected if kept. Missing-path errors concern only those entries; other errors are inconclusive and do not verify knowledge restoration.
What Mole lists
The four recorded data leaves and qualifying owned launcher links need review, starting unchecked with Remove data and settings with apps off. Enabling it can preselect eligible unshared data, including direct app-specific home leaves, so uncheck knowledge and CLI-shared state you want to keep. It does not edit clients' configurations or delete cloud workspaces for you.
What this test covered
On September 23, 2026, the official-download Nowledge Mem 0.10.85 app copy was removed. The knowledge-graph and working-memory folders were not listed and remained; exact reviewed data/model/runtime and owned-link coverage was added separately afterward, without another removal test in that record. Populated-knowledge restoration, independent CLI/connectors, cloud deletion and Homebrew were not tested.
