How to uninstall Nimble Commander on Mac
Finish file operations before removing Nimble Commander. The official user guide describes background copy and move operations, network locations and configurable external tools. Files you browse and external tools are separate from the file-manager app.
Finish transfers and quit
Wait for wanted copies or moves to finish, stop unwanted operations, and confirm destination files before quitting with Cmd + Q. Then move Nimble Commander.app from Applications to the Trash.
Keep your documents, remote files and independently installed tools. If you want the same file-manager setup after reinstalling, back up ~/Library/Application Support/Nimble Commander and ~/Library/Preferences/info.filesmanager.Files.plist when present; these are the app locations named by its cask, not a list of your browsed files.
After confirming the backup and quitting the app, press Shift + Command + G in Finder to open each named support or preference location. Move only the Nimble Commander folder or preference file you no longer want to the Trash; leave documents, remote files and external tools in place.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl 'Nimble Commander'
ls -ld '/Applications/Nimble Commander.app' "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Nimble Commander" "$HOME/Library/Preferences/info.filesmanager.Files.plist"
Inspect matching process paths. Missing-path errors mean the named locations are absent, permission errors leave them unknown. Check wanted transfer destinations and independent tools separately.
If you installed it with Homebrew
brew uninstall --cask nimble-commander
The cask defines its managed removal. Its zap list contains only the named support directory and preference file above. It does not name your documents or network files.
A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap nimble-commander runs its whole zap list regardless of Mole's checkboxes. Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected.
What Mole lists
Mole selects the app and exact bundle-owned preferences and caches when present. The support directory is a review row, unchecked when Remove data and settings with apps in General > Cleaning is off. Turning it on can preselect this app's eligible data; shared settings still need individual review. Keep wanted setup unchecked. These rows do not authorize deleting files shown in the two panels or external tools.
What this test covered
On September 21, 2026, Nimble Commander 1.8.0 from the official Mac package was launched and removed. The selected empty support directory and temporary cache were removed with the app. No additional data location was recorded. Network transfers, saved connection recovery and a Homebrew installation were not verified.
