How to uninstall Mullvad Browser on Mac
Save wanted bookmarks and browser preferences before removing Mullvad Browser. This is the browser, not the Mullvad VPN app. The official Mac uninstall instructions remove both the app and MullvadBrowser support folder; keep a backup before following the data-removal part. This guide covers the official Mac download and Homebrew cask mullvad-browser.
Quit and decide about your profile
Save wanted browser information, quit Mullvad Browser with Command + Q, and copy ~/Library/Application Support/MullvadBrowser outside that directory if you want to keep it. Then move Mullvad Browser.app from Applications to Trash.
The vendor's fuller Mac procedure also moves the support folder to Trash. Leave that step out when keeping your bookmarks and preferences, and wait to empty Trash until you have checked your backup. Removing the browser does not uninstall Mullvad VPN or cancel a VPN account.
Review the exact browser locations
Inspect these paths in Finder with Shift + Command + G. The support location is in the official manual; the other locations are named in the Homebrew cask or recorded Mac test.
| Location | What to do |
|---|---|
| ~/Library/Application Support/MullvadBrowser | Personal browser data. Keep or back up before deleting. |
| ~/Library/Caches/MullvadBrowser | The recorded installation created a Profiles subtree here. Inspect it as browser data rather than deleting the whole root as disposable cache. |
| ~/Library/Preferences/net.mullvad.mullvadbrowser.plist | Browser preferences. Keep for a reinstall or remove to reset them. |
| ~/Library/Saved Application State/net.mullvad.mullvadbrowser.savedState | Saved application state. Remove only if no longer needed. |
Skip paths that do not exist, and leave other Mullvad products' files alone.
Check the result
pgrep -il 'Mullvad Browser'
ls -d "/Applications/Mullvad Browser.app" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/MullvadBrowser" "$HOME/Library/Caches/MullvadBrowser"
No process output means no matching process name is running; a listed process needs inspection. A path printed by ls remains, a missing-path error means it is absent, and a permission error leaves its state unknown. Deliberately kept profile locations are not an uninstall failure.
If you installed it with Homebrew
brew uninstall --cask mullvad-browser
This uninstalls without zap and asks the browser to quit. A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap mullvad-browser also removes both browser-data roots, preferences and saved state above, regardless of Mole's checkboxes.
Mole uninstalls browsers without --zap and removes the leftovers you select.
What Mole lists
Both ~/Library/Application Support/MullvadBrowser and ~/Library/Caches/MullvadBrowser are browser-data review rows, not selected by default, bulk selection or the Remove data and settings with apps opt-in. Personal or sensitive profiles need an individual choice; shared or unverified ownership cannot be selected. The browser's exact preferences and saved state are selected by default when present.
What this test covered
Mullvad Browser 15.0.23 from the official package was copied to Applications and uninstalled on September 21, 2026, without signing in or a Homebrew receipt. The app, preferences and identified temporary caches went to Trash. The support folder was retained by policy, and an 18.3 MB cache Profiles subtree remained because that run did not list its root; the current source maps that root to browser-data review. Profile deletion or recovery and Mullvad VPN removal were not verified.
