How to uninstall Movist Pro on Mac

Keep saved playlists, playback settings and original media before uninstalling Movist Pro. The official product page documents managed playlists and its Safari extension. This guide covers the website Pro app and Homebrew cask movist-pro, not the separate App Store Movist edition.

Stop playback and disable the extension

Save wanted playlist information, stop playback and quit Movist Pro with Command + Q. If its Safari extension is enabled, disable it in Safari › Settings › Extensions before removing the app. Do not uninstall unrelated extensions.

Back up ~/Library/Application Support/Movist Pro outside that folder if you want to preserve player data. Move Movist Pro.app from Applications to Trash after it closes. Keep your movies, subtitles and network-server files.

    Review the player's own folders

After backing up wanted data, quitting Movist Pro and disabling its Safari extension, press Shift + Command + G in Finder to open each location below. Move only the Movist Pro items you choose to remove to Trash; keep your media and shared parent folders.

    Location Keep or remove
~/Library/Application Support/Movist Pro Player data, including state worth preserving before a reset.
    ~/Library/Caches/com.movist.MovistPro App cache.
~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.movist.MovistPro Local HTTP state. Inspect before resetting online sessions.
~/Library/Containers/com.movist.MovistPro.MovistSafariExtension The Safari extension's container named by the cask.
~/Library/Application Scripts/com.movist.MovistPro.MovistSafariExtension The extension's scripts directory named by the cask.

The cask also lists preferences, WebKit, saved state, HTTP cookies and the app's own recent-document list. Keep Apple's sharedfilelist parent and other apps' entries. Uninstalling does not cancel subscriptions or erase remote files.

    Check the result

    pgrep -il Movist
    ls -d "/Applications/Movist Pro.app" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Movist Pro" "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.movist.MovistPro.MovistSafariExtension"

No process output means no matching name is running; distinguish Pro from another Movist edition in Activity Monitor. Printed paths remain, missing-path errors mean absence, and permission errors leave them unknown. Check Safari's extension list separately.

If you installed it with Homebrew

    brew uninstall --cask movist-pro

The ordinary cask uninstall removes the app and requests its quit. Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap movist-pro also applies all the listed support data and extension state, plus cache, HTTP, preferences, WebKit, saved state and app-owned recent documents, without consulting Mole's checkboxes.

Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected.

    What Mole lists

Exact app preferences and ordinary caches are selected by default. Display-name support data is listed but not selected with Remove data and settings with apps off; enabling it can preselect eligible reviewed data. Owned embedded-extension scripts and containers can be selected by default when their ownership is verified. A row marked as unverified browser data stays locked; neither bulk selection nor the data opt-in overrides that protection.

    What this test covered

Movist Pro 2.19.0 from the official package was copied to Applications and uninstalled on September 21, 2026, without a Homebrew receipt. The app, caches and preferences went to Trash. That historical scan treated its HTTP/HTTPS registration as browser-like, leaving 176 MB of support data and HTTP storage protected. Current source also requires an HTML document declaration for an unknown browser, but this app's resulting classification was not verified by a new uninstall. Safari extension removal, playlists and a full installer run were not tested.

Mac running low on space or slowing down? Mole can clean out the junk, remove apps completely and keep macOS in shape.
