How to uninstall Monologue on Mac

Save dictated text, voice notes and meeting transcripts you want to retain before removing Monologue. Keep text already written into other apps and any local models you still use. The official site describes dictation, notes and local/offline models; it does not make an app-settings copy a verified transcript backup.

    Quit and review local data

Finish voice capture and save your work, then quit the menu-bar app. Inspect ~/Library/Application Support/com.zeitalabs.jottleai and ~/Library/Containers/com.zeitalabs.jottleai using Finder’s Go › Go to Folder. Copy wanted local contents while the app is closed, check the backup before resetting either, then move Monologue.app from Applications to the Trash. Keep original documents and other dictation tools.

If you installed it with Homebrew

    brew uninstall --cask monologue

The current cask requests that Monologue quit and manages its app bundle. Additional zap targets are:

    • ~/Library/Application Support/com.zeitalabs.jottleai
    • ~/Library/Caches/com.zeitalabs.jottleai
    • ~/Library/Caches/SentryCrash/Monologue
    • ~/Library/Containers/com.zeitalabs.jottleai
    • ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.zeitalabs.jottleai
    • ~/Library/Preferences/com.zeitalabs.jottleai.plist

Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap monologue uses the entire list independently of Mole’s checkboxes; use no-zap removal when keeping data. Mole uses zap only when the complete scope passes selection and shared-data checks, otherwise selected remnants use its own removal flow. App removal does not cancel a subscription or delete an online account.

    Check the result

    ls -ld "/Applications/Monologue.app"
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Application Support/com.zeitalabs.jottleai" "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.zeitalabs.jottleai"

Printed paths remain. A missing-path error concerns only that exact item; permission errors leave it unknown. A retained or denied container is separate from retaining the app. These commands do not verify transcripts, offline models or the online account.

    What Mole lists

The exact app-identity support folder and main container above are selected by default when present and unprotected, so uncheck local data you need. Exact app preferences and matching caches are also normally selected. Remove data and settings with apps is off by default; opting in includes eligible reviewed data while shared and protected stores retain their boundaries.

    What this test covered

The copied official Mac app and selected support data were removed with a source-built Mole on September 22, 2026. The main container remained after a macOS permission denial. Dictation, populated notes, transcript or local-model recovery, account deletion and a Homebrew-managed uninstall were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
