How to Uninstall MarsEdit on Mac

Check that blog posts are published or saved on the server, and keep local drafts before removing MarsEdit. The vendor notes that downloaded posts form a local archive; that archive is not proof every unpublished draft exists online. The recorded test used a direct download, not a Homebrew installation.

Remove the app and inspect its data

Quit MarsEdit and move MarsEdit.app from Applications to Trash. Review its local containers and any MarsEdit-specific group items individually; do not clear a Red Sweater family wildcard. The cask zap uses broad com.red-sweater.* patterns and a group container. Some entries can refer to older MarsEdit identities or another Red Sweater app; inspect owner and contents before any manual zap. Vendor guidance.

Check the result

Run this read-only check after quitting the app. A printed path still exists; “No such file or directory” means that path is absent, while a permission error needs its own investigation.

If you installed it with Homebrew

The Homebrew cask has a zap list that includes Red Sweater scripts, containers and group data via broad wildcards; a direct zap requires owner review. Run the command below without --zap if you want to keep those files and inspect them separately. A manual --zap follows the whole cask list regardless of Mole’s checkboxes. Mole uses zap only when its targets are selected, owned and within the checked boundary; otherwise it removes selected remnants through its own flow.

Exact current bundle-ID container rows are normally selected. Shared or historical Red Sweater entries are not automatically claimed by this app and may be protected.

What this test covered

MarsEdit 5.4.5 from the official archive was removed on September 20, 2026. A MarsEdit 4 log path was observed but not attributed to this MarsEdit 5 installation or removed. No blog account was connected.
