How to uninstall Loom on Mac

The videos you record with Loom live in your Loom library on the web, so removing the Mac app does not delete them. Before you uninstall, open your library on loom.com and check that your latest recordings are there. On the Mac, Loom leaves a support folder, logs and a login item it adds on first launch. These steps cover the Loom desktop app downloaded from loom.com and the Homebrew cask loom.

Quit Loom and remove the app

  1. Quit Loom from its menu bar icon. Loom runs a separate recorder process, loom-recorder-production, next to the app; search Activity Monitor for Loom and check that nothing is left running.
  2. Move Loom from the Applications folder to the Trash, which is the removal method on Atlassian's uninstall page for Loom. The page also recommends restarting the Mac afterwards.
  3. Open System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions. In this test, Loom added a login item named Loom on first launch. If it is still listed after the app is gone, remove it there.

Removing the app does not cancel a paid Loom plan or delete your account; manage those in your Loom workspace settings.

Remove Loom's support folder and logs

Atlassian's page lists two folders for a full removal and gives Terminal commands with sudo for them. You do not need administrator rights for folders in your own Library, so use Finder instead: press Shift + Command + G and open each path below, then move it to the Trash.

The preferences file is in the Homebrew cask's zap list rather than on Atlassian's page. An earlier test also found an updater cache, ~/Library/Caches/loom-updater, of about 85 MB; remove it too if it is there.

Check the result

Run these read-only commands in Terminal:

ls -d "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Loom" ~/Library/Logs/Loom ~/Library/Caches/loom-updater
  • No output from pgrep means no process is running from Loom.app, the recorder included. A listed process means Loom or its recorder is still open; quit Loom from the menu bar first.
  • ls -d prints each folder that still exists and reports "No such file or directory" for the rest. Every line reporting "No such file or directory" means those folders are gone.

If you installed it with Homebrew

Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or cannot be fully checked, and still cleans the leftovers you selected.

The loom cask removes the Loom login item as part of a normal uninstall. Its zap list adds ~/Library/Application Support/Loom, ~/Library/Logs/Loom, the preferences file, saved window state and the recent-documents list. Running brew uninstall --cask --zap loom yourself moves them to the Trash, whatever you ticked in Mole. Your videos are in your Loom library, not in these folders. To keep the local folders, remove only the app:

brew uninstall --cask loom

What Mole lists

This is how Mole handles Loom installed from the official download:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Loom is listed but not selected. The rebuildable caches inside it, Cache, Code Cache, GPUCache, DawnGraphiteCache, DawnWebGPUCache, Crashpad and blob_storage, are separate rows selected by default.
  • ~/Library/Logs/Loom, the com.loom.desktop preferences file, the app's recent-documents list and its temporary cache folders are selected by default.
  • Your Loom library on the web is not on this Mac and is not listed.

What this test covered

On September 26, 2026, Loom 0.378.0 was installed from the official package Homebrew's cask points to, checked against its checksum and copied into Applications, launched once without signing in or granting screen recording, and uninstalled with a development build of Mole with every listed row ticked, including the ones Mole leaves unchecked. Mole's Status page showed Loom as one row with 19 processes, the recorder among them. The app, the support folder with its caches, the logs, the preferences and the temporary caches, 14 items in all, went to the Trash, and none of them was still on disk afterwards. The Loom login item that appeared on first launch was gone after the uninstall. No video was recorded, and the Homebrew cask was not uninstalled. An earlier test on September 21, 2026 removed Loom 0.375.0, its 14 MB support folder and the 85 MB ~/Library/Caches/loom-updater.
