How to uninstall Linkly AI on Mac

Keep the original documents indexed by Linkly AI when removing the app. The vendor terms distinguish your device files, the local index and cloud libraries; deleting an account can irreversibly delete cloud-library content and is separate from removing the Mac app.

    Save state and quit

In Settings › About › Data Directory › Open, locate the actual data folder as described in the FAQ. The documented Mac logs live under ~/Library/Application Support/ai.linkly.desktop/logs, inside that app-data folder. Finish indexing/notes work, stop connected CLI/MCP tasks and quit Linkly AI, then copy the entire existing ~/Library/Application Support/ai.linkly.desktop outside sync/removal roots and verify it. Also preserve wanted existing ~/Library/Application Support/linkly-ai-diagnostics, observed in the recorded run, if you need those diagnostic files. Leave indexed source folders untouched.

After backup, follow Apple's Finder removal instructions and move the Linkly AI app from Applications to the Trash.

    Optional standalone CLI and integrations

The official CLI repository describes a separate linkly command, able to use local, LAN or remote services. Its installer defaults to ~/.linkly/bin/linkly, with a custom LINKLY_INSTALL_DIR allowed. App removal does not remove this binary. For a script-installed copy, inspect the resolved binary and move only that owned file to the Trash in Finder. If installed through the documented tap, use brew uninstall LinklyAI/tap/linkly; for Cargo use cargo uninstall linkly-ai-cli only for that installation.

Remove only the Linkly MCP entry from configured clients and only its installed linkly-ai skill from the actual configured skill location, preserving other settings and archives. Keep the CLI and its configuration if you still use remote access; do not delete the entire ~/.linkly folder just to remove a binary.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl linkly
    command -v linkly
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Application Support/ai.linkly.desktop" "$HOME/.linkly/bin/linkly"

No process match means no arguments matched this pattern. A surviving path may belong to the independent CLI; inspect it before acting. command -v resolves a PATH entry, not ownership; no output means none resolves in this shell. Printed files/folders remain, expected if kept. Missing-path errors concern only those entries; other errors are inconclusive and do not verify cloud-library recovery.

    What Mole lists

Exact app-ID support/cache/WebKit rows follow their default selection rules, so back up and uncheck wanted local state. Reviewed diagnostic or other owned data starts unchecked with Remove data and settings with apps off; enabling it can preselect eligible unshared rows. Local app removal does not remove the standalone CLI, client configurations or original indexed documents.

    What this test covered

On September 23, 2026, the official-download Linkly AI 0.14.1 app copy was removed with selected support, cache, WebKit and its diagnostic folder. That check did not verify populated-note recovery, original-document operations, cloud/account deletion or standalone CLI/integration removal. Homebrew was not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
