How to uninstall IconJar on Mac
Locate and back up your icon library before uninstalling IconJar. The official support page says that deleting library data removes the icons, and that concurrent cloud-folder syncing can damage the library. This guide covers the official Mac app and Homebrew cask iconjar, not a separate Setapp uninstall.
Find the library before quitting
Open IconJar's preferences › Library and double-click the Library breadcrumb to reveal its real location in Finder. Quit IconJar with Command + Q before copying the complete wanted library outside the folders you plan to remove, then check the copy. Do not assume it lives in the empty support folder recorded during testing.
Once IconJar has quit and the library backup is checked, move IconJar.app from Applications to Trash. If it is still running, inspect it in Activity Monitor before continuing.
Keep the library distinct from preferences
| Location | Keep or remove |
|---|---|
| The library revealed by IconJar | Your icons and library organization. Back up and retain it unless you intend to erase that library. |
| ~/Library/Application Support/IconJar 2.0 | Empty support folder observed in the recorded test, not evidence of where a populated library lives. |
| ~/Library/Application Support/IconJar | Support/library location named by the cask and vendor's troubleshooting page. Review its actual contents before deletion. |
| ~/Library/Preferences/com.iconjar.iconjar.plist | Older preference identifier named by the cask; do not assume it is the same file as the tested IconJar 2 preferences. |
| /Users/Shared/IconJar | Cask-listed shared location. Preserve it if another user or installation needs it. |
The current cask lists the last three locations. After verifying the library backup and quitting IconJar, press Shift + Command + G in Finder to open the user-library paths and move only the IconJar items you choose to remove to Trash. Remove a shared IconJar library only after confirming that no other user or installation needs it; keep the Shared parent folder.
Check the result
pgrep -il IconJar
ls -d /Applications/IconJar.app "$HOME/Library/Application Support/IconJar 2.0" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/IconJar"
No process output means no matching name is running. Printed paths survive, missing-path errors mean absence, and permission errors leave the result unknown. A library you chose to keep is expected to remain.
If you installed it with Homebrew
brew uninstall --cask iconjar
The ordinary cask uninstall removes the app without zap. Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap iconjar also targets the cask's Application Support/IconJar, older preference file and shared IconJar folder, regardless of Mole's checkboxes. It can remove a library, so retain your verified backup first.
Mole skips --zap for this cask because its Shared-folder target is outside the locations in the uninstall review. It still removes the leftovers you selected.
License and subscription
Uninstalling does not cancel the annual subscription or delete an account. The official support page says to contact IconJar or reply to the order-confirmation email to cancel, and to contact support for a license reset.
What Mole lists
IconJar's own exact bundle-ID preferences and caches are selected by default when present. App-named support data, including the recorded IconJar 2.0 folder, is unchecked with Remove data and settings with apps off; enabling it can preselect eligible reviewed app data. Keep library rows unchecked if you need them. The cask's older identifiers do not prove that all its paths will be listed for IconJar 2, and shared stores retain their protection and review.
What this test covered
IconJar 2.11.4 was copied from the official package to Applications and uninstalled on September 21, 2026, without a Homebrew receipt. The app and an empty IconJar 2.0 support folder went to Trash after selecting the review item. No populated icon library was written, so library recovery, shared-library removal, Setapp and Homebrew uninstall were not verified.
